Will there be much downtime when you change providers?

I take it you have an analogue landline, will this conduit be reused by the new provider?

Is there any chance that your new provider may connect your line via Voice Over IP ?

Sorry for all of the questions, if there is no downtime and if the voltage of your landline is not disturbed then your alarm will not detect any change.

Im not sure if there will be much down time they do say this : If you rely on your existing phone connection for your TV, house alarm or any other device or service, please confirm you are aware that you are responsible for contacting your provider to ensure continuity of service.

i know it takes a day to change

Is there any chance that your new provider may connect your line via Voice Over IP ? i dont know its with virgin

Looks like you will be going down the VOIP route alright, Virgin will probably install a new box by your TV, connect your TV and give you a new wireless domestic phone handset and depart.
In all probability, your existing Eircom line will become redundant and therefore after a period of time the voltage on the line will disappear and your alarm will detect this and will warn of a line fault by beeping, assuming of course that it complies with standards.
You will have to get your alarm company onto this one.
