Confused about hand path

Can anyone tell me if I'm misunderstand these two guys below as they seems to be giving contradictory advice.

At the start of the down swing should you drop your hand like Crossfield suggests or move the club towards the ball like Ryan suggests.

Ryan says the good golfers move the hands more out towards the golf ball than on the down swing, I thought this would promote an out to inside swing leading to slices?

He then says the poorer golfers make the vertical movement down with the hands (like Crossfield suggests to do) and makes it difficult to finish the swing.

Is Crossfield giving advice geared more towards higher handicap players and Ryan more towards better players?
