I was wondering what is the typical water pressure that should be expected from your mains ? I have seen references to 1.5 bar to 2 bar. What does Irish Water commit to delivering ?

    thanks

    Hi GalwayUsr,

Water pressure is the measure of the force that gets the water from the reservoir, through our mains and into supply pipes. Water pressure varies at different locations in each Water Supply Zone depending on the property's elevation and proximity to the reservoir.

Irish Water aim to provide sufficient water pressure to fill the attic tank of a 2-Storey house (1 bar) and the householder is required to have an attic storage tank to cater for any temporary low pressure periods.

Pressure can fluctuate throughout the day when demand is high, mornings and early evenings, but other factors that could affect water pressure include: the height of the property (single or double-storey) the elevation of the property relative to the reservoir, the condition of your service connection or a leak on the property/burst mains.

The amount of pressure at your tap also depends on how high our service reservoir or water tower is above your home, or on how much water is being used by other customers.

It is possible to make changes to your internal plumbing to increase your water pressure - for example by ensuring your stop tap is fully open, or checking that any systems that depend on the pressure of water reaching the property are set to the statutory minimum level of 1 bar/10 metres head.

    We hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Mairead
