Injector pump reconditioning

Has anyone here had a tractor injector pump reconditioned??

Or have any idea of the cost to do so??

Pump in my tractor is gone and a replacement is running up on €1000, and hard enough to find at that.

Tractor is only standing me around €730 including purchase and a new starter so not sure I can justify spending a grand on it.

Unless you have something very exotic (like an Anerician Bosch pump or something) worst case scenario would be 350 euro to recondition.

What sort of tractor is it. I did one on a 675 about 10 years ago. Mark the injector pump and housing at same point before taking off try to mark the two gears as well inside the housing's( I am trying to remember a long way back so may make a mistake). As Nek says 350 should recondition it. It is likely you have a steel diesel tank while it is being recondition empty it and get it steam cleaned. After that install a little inline filter in the line leaving the tank. make sure to label or mark which injector pipe comes from which point on pump.

200 plus vat to recondition a ford 7600 pump.

By the way, how do you know when the pump is gone? What would the signs be?

Usually it is tractor failing to start. Diesel not feeding through injector pump. You usually have had to get a mechaninc to start it a few time. A lot of it tends to be a lot of dirt after building up in pump over years. That is why I reccomend cleaning tank and installing a inline filter after it is done

A few years ago there was some horrendously dirty diesel being sold here in Cavan.
Gummed up the pumps on both the digger and the tractor, had to get both overhauled.
Would start, but wouldn't rev up properly.
Funny enough, the Fiat tractor I have wasn't affected at all, it has a Bosch while the other two have CAV pumps.

Isn'y there filters there already? The normal diesel filters.

Yes but usually on older tractors a single filter and the is before the lift pump. The inline filter will start taking some of the gunge out before it hits main filter

All started about a month ago with this tractor.

Fired it up one day, turned and started as normal but as soon as she was running it revved itself up to the last.

First thought was had I my foot on the throttle but no, pulled the stopper but no good. Tbought she was gonna blow herself apart. Then the revs dropped after maybe 10 seconds and she cut out.

No way would she start after that. Didn't sound to be turning over right either.

I thought maybe the filter was blocked and she revved up as she starved herself of diesel.

Didn't get a chance till this week to go at her so I drained the diesel tank and flushed it with clean diesel. New filter and checked all pipes running to the injector pump.

Fresh diesel in the tank, pulled the primer a few times and diesel is making it to the injector pump.

Opened the injector pipes going to the heads and nothing coming out when the tractor is turned over.

So seems to me to be am issue with the injector pump.
I'm no mechanic though, and if one of ye can see where I might have fallen down, and that maybe it's not the injector pump, then I am all ears.

Thanks for taking the time to read this

No hassle. Worth knowing the signs in case it happens here.

The stopper actually cuts off diesel supply mechism can go faulty in the injector pump eith not stopping tractor or staying closed after use. Good idea to push stopper in straight after stopping tractor. A bit of water in the injector pump can freeze and can take ages to thaw and cause many issues or a bit of dirt can cause issues.

Price around to see what kind of charge too recon pump.If it is around 200 euro you can take off youself, get it overhauled and refit. There is usually minimal adjustment in older tractors to refit as long as you do not trinker with any part inside in housings. If it is more expensive get a mechanic to look at it. But I suspect that the pump may have a few problems.

Very possible. Like I said tractor only cost me €500 first day, she's had a hard life in more than one of her former homes.
