Are these two the same thing?
I need to switch my credits over to my new employer, the Irish vAt number is on my contract, but `ROS.ie myAccount asks for employer's tax registration number.
Can I enter the VAT number on the contract?

Often the new numbers are one and the same. But not always. An employer can have a different number for their VAT Registration to that of their PREM (Employer) Registration.

When people used to phone up the tax office to ask for their new job details to be put on (i.e. before it had to be done via Jobs and Pensions on MyAccount), the Revenue official would be able to trace the separate Employer number (if there was one) if they had the VAT number.

What are the implications of taking a chance with the number I have? If its wrong will it be a huge hassle fixing it? Cant stand all this stuff, it drives me nuts. Far too much terminology and its unclear if the same thing has two names, you'd need to be an expert to understand it properly. They basically have the customer doing their job for them now.

    I agree.

I used to work on those PAYE phonelines, and as time went on, it became more and more frustrating having to tell callers that they needed to do everything online.

But I guess in the grand scheme of things, it's a result, as it saves money, it means less people are employed, and those who are employed have less job satisfaction.:D

I don't know if on MyAccount it will tell you if the number is incorrect...it might just send a message to Revenue who will then have to examine the transaction and see if they can fix it.

In my experience, small employers tended to have the same VAT/PREM number - but bigger firms could have different ones. In fact, some employers have more than one employer number - for different categories of staff. The employer should provide the number to the employee for registration purposes.
