NCT query

    Hi,

So my car is up for NCT on the 9th of October this year and was first registered on July 16th.

Would it be right in saying that, if I put it through the NCT before July 11th (90 days before 9th of October), it will get a 2 year NCT from that date (lets say 8th July 2020)?

However, will it get a 2 year NCT if I put it through the NCT between 11th July and 16th July, starting from 9th of October ? (9th October 2020). I don't think so, because then the certificate will be issued from 9th of October and then the car will be over 10 years old.

Has anyone come across this before?

    Thanks,
    Deividas

Is your Car not 10 years old on July 16th this year ????
If so you would have to pass an NCT at least 90 days before July 16th to get a 2 year Cert.

    Something is mixed up.

Is car imported or was it original Irish car.

If it's original Irish car first registered on 16th July 2014, then your first NCT is due 16th July 2018. (not in October).

If however car was first registered abroad on 9th October 2014, and then subsequently registered in Ireland on 16th July (year doesn't matter), you are due NCT on 9th October 2018.

You can do NCT up to 90 days before due date, and still get full to years up to next due date, meaning in best case scenario if you do test full 90 days before due date, you'll get a cert valid for 27 months.

As I read ops post I assumed this car was registered abroad on 16th July and reregistered in Ireland on 9th October as Nct expires in October. The reason I assumed is that my own car was registered in UK on 25th May 2008 and reregistered here on 24th October 2014.Nct expires on 23/10/2018.I assumed that if I got NCT done 90 days before 23/10/2018 I would 2 years Nct but this thread has me thinking I might not as car is actually 10 years old on 25th May.

Yep, the car was registered in Ireland on 9th October 2012.

As far as I can tell:

If I put it through the NCT between 11th July and 16th July, I'll get two years from October (9th October 2020).
If I put it through the NCT before 11th of July, it will be 2 years from from the day I do the NCT (10th of July 2020 lets say).
If I put it through the NCT after July 16th, it will be 1 year from October (9th October 2019).

    I think that's correct?

    Thanks guys.

I was difficult to follow OP. Simply I would say If your car was less than 9 years 9 months on the day ye brought her to the test centre and ye passed, ye would get 2 years. Otherwise 1 year. And I got 2 years NCT disc last year by applying exactly this.

Open to correction and maybe someone who has direct experience can clarify...

Imported cars are age defined by the year of first registration abroad and if that is the case then a 2008 import is already 10 years old and can't get a 2 year NCT. It would have to have been tested in 2017 to get a 2 year cert.

Even if a car is first registered abroad on 31st December 2015 and imported say in 2018, it will be considered age 10 (for NCT purposes) on 1st January 2025 when it's real age is only 9 years + one day.

As mentioned, that's not definitive and hopefully someone that knows for sure can clarify.

Oh, that's an interesting thought. If anyone has any experience I'd love to find out more?

My car was registered on 9th May 2008 in Uk and here in October so Ncts run from October.I contacted Nct today to be told that I should have had it tested before 9/02/2018 to get final 2year cert.90days before its English birthday.
