A massive story in response to the world wide fear of nuclear catastrophe etc. Why are no news agencies reporting this?

It's not even a back page story.

    It's like it didn't happen...

It was never a story to begin with. NK have been throwing shapes for over half a century.
It was hot air by Kim enhanced by more hot air from Trumpy.
    Inevitable conclusion.

It was on the radio today and RTE news tonight, how much coverage of a non event are you seeking?

China and North Korea purposes are fairly well aligned.
Japan and China are opponents and if their Heads of State met it
would be big news. North Korea has issues with Japan, South Korea and
    USA.

Kim and Don's meeting is way more important. Don fails to secure a deal, people like John Bolton will be telling Trump to strike now or it is too late.

We can't give them attention - that's what they want. That's letting the communists win.

    I like Kim's train.

Big 1950s looking diesel loco. Supposedly it's bomb proof.

Jesus, Kim, was it really appropriate to go to the meeting
    in your pJs. Decorum?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

He was summoned. The new Supreme Leader of China wants to know why everybody is suddenly friends and what Kims Masterplan when he meets Trump. All the lines are tapped so they had to do it face to face.

That's probably the highest end clobber over there made by the NK version of Louis Copeland.

He certainly should be. It fits like a kid wearing his auld fellas clothes.
And Kim is ripped, it's hard to make something like that look bad!:D

Too bad the old school railway tracks can stop it in its tracks with minimal effort for a handful of people with the right tools

China are pretty much the main reason North Korea still exists. While they'll occasionally get annoyed at just how unpredictable NK can be, they're North Korea's closest ally, so it's not massive news that their heads of state have met.

It's not so much ally, it's like a buffer state or pet.

If there's a war then China will be flooded with refugees and they don't want that. If there's re-unification then China gets a powerful neighbour on their doorstep and they don't want that either.

True, while China sees NK as a buffer state it's still probably the closest thing to an ally that NK has.

It's not even a back page story.

It was covered by most media sources. CNN covered it for definite, as did Sky. Not sure why Kim Jong Un is being more open with his neighbours all of a sudden but it can only be a good thing. I think Trump deserves some credit for this. His bold approach to the DPRK seems to have done some good. Wouldn't it be something else if he met with Kim Jong Un and it led to the DPRK breaking down it's walls with the rest of the world.

Countries don't have friends , they have interests.

The spin is that Kim is ignoring the US and just dealing with China so there's that.

So if the US get what it wants then China gets the credit.
