One of my friends applied for Disability allowance last summer. They got it after appeal. They want to know how long does it take for the first payment to get to their bank account - currently on supplementary welfare benefit paid at the post office?
They also want to know are they entitled to a back payment and how to get this?
How do they apply for the free travel pass?
This person lives on their own are they entitled to any extra payment or benefit due to getting disability allowance?
Thank for any help or information you can give me for them.

It's been a few years but the date of first payment was written on my appeal allowed letter. If there wasn't anything, you or they could call the disability allowance section in Longford and ask. (043) 334 0000

They'll be entitled to back payment, but any supplementary welfare payment they got will be deducted. Arrears can take a few weeks/months to be sorted.

If they already have a public services card, the free travel pass should be issued automatically. If not, they'll have to apply.

They should be entitled to Living Alone Increase + Fuel Allowance + Household Benefits (TV licence and Gas/Electricity Allowance). There is also a Telephone Allowance being introduced in June. This is automatic for people entitled to Living Alone + Fuel.

If they're in need of housing, they may be eligible for HAP.

My friend was successful in getting the disability allowance a few weeks ago. They received a letter letting them know they are going to receive X amount in arrears by EFT to their bank account but it does not say the date this will happen. Does anyone here know how soon after getting this letter will the arrears be paid into the account?

Could be anything from 2 or 3 to 6 weeks. Pointless ringing as they will tell you it’s being processed (it is) and can’t give you a time frame.
