Handbuilt, on eg H+Son Archetype or Kinlin XR31T rim.

    Eh, .....how about Zondas?

(both Campag and Shim/Sham freehubs are available)

Or if you don't want Zondas, go for a set of Fulcrum Racing 3s

Cero AR30 are fairly light and in that range. Good reviews too

Have these and like them. I'm sure zondas are brilliant like everybody says, but I can't dig the spoke pattern. And aesthetics count, but everyone is entitled to their opinions and reasons.

Devon, i don't think it's the freehub, i'd lean more to it been because of the big miles you do on them.

What are peoples opinion of MAVIC AKSIUM wheels?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,221 ✭✭✭thekooman

Aksiums; entry level Mavic wheel but a great wheel and more than enough for us mere mortals for training and racing on. when they give hassle (which they hardly will) bin them and get another set. at 160 euro you can't wrong.

I'd go a few quid extra and get a set of Fulcrum Quattros instead of Aksiums. I had both on two different bikes at the same time and the quattros were leaps and bounds ahead of the aksiums in all fields, comfort, smoothness, stiffness etc

Anybody know the cheapest place atm to pick up the zondas? See them in a few of the german sites at €360.

    Are they not disc only?

Oops, aye - although no mention of brakes in OP.

So Hope Open Pro RS4 for rim brakes.

I don't see why you would want Zondas alternatives when they are so good, if you are going to pay a similar price.
They are one of the lightest and strongest wheels in that price range and easily maintained.
I have mine over a year now and they have been excellent.
The bearings went 2 weeks ago and they cost me 25 Euro to be replaced and the freehub serviced and now they seem brand new.
My next pair of wheels will also be Zondas when the rims on these finally run out.

    Which ones did you get?

    Which ones did you get?

    HUNT Race Aero | Road Wheelset | 1449g | 27Deep 23Wide

I was toying with the race or sprint wide, but choose weight over aero. While probably the wrong choice (as tehre was little difference in weight) they are cracking wheels for the price. I could start the wheel spinning, go away, make a cuppa, drink it, return and it would still be spinning happily.

Thanks for that. Really enjoying the new wheels, good increase in quality from the last set I had on the bike.
