    Hi,

Had some repair work done on my boiler recently, received the bill this morning. Costing a lot more than the plumber had let on it would!!

Can anyone give any feedback on whether this is a good price or not?

List of work below, Cost €750
(Vokera quoted me about €100 less for the same work, whih I thought was high)

Replacement of expansion vessel and safety valve on boiler
    - Replacement of automatic filling valve
    - Repaired leak on radiator in bedroom
    - Fill heating system with leak sealer solution and inhibitor
    - Tested & commissioned of all works completed

The repaired leak was a tightening of the valve, a 2 minute job. I was at home while work was done. All in less than 2 hours on site. The boiler is a Vokera Compact HE 25, new expansion vessel fitted externally, safety valve on boiler replaced internally.

Would appreciate any feedback at all.

    Thanks

Bump, can anyone give some input on this at all?

I have since found out the parts used were €100 - €150 maximum. Seems very excessive for labour costs if that is correct.

    Thanks!

You don't say if it's plus or including vat. I'm assuming that a cert was issued for the work.

You have a 2nd quote from Vokera. They were cheaper but didn't see the job. Plumbers charge different rates in different parts of the country. The best way to find out is to get names from the RGI website of local RGI installers and ring another one or two with the list above. You'll have the average price for your area then n

    Ok thanks for the reply.

I understand prices vary, it just seems like a big variation.

The price I have quoted incl. VAT.

Regarding the cert.....what work actually requires certification? There was no work carried out on 'gas installation' as such, work was done on the heating system pipework, no gas pipes were modified or altered.

I'm not rgi myself but I believe if the cover is removed then a cert should be issued. This is the case with the fuseboad.

Prices vary a lot. The average cost of replacing an electric shower is 350 in the Dublin yet some charge over 500 for the same thing. If you wait long enough someone will say that they got more work than that for half the price. Happens all the time here on boards.ie. But its not comparing like with like. One job could be up to standard and the cheaper price could be a crash job with a handyman on the dole.

First off, if somebody re fitted an auto filler then that’s wrong straight off. They should be replaced with a manual filling loop.
I personally couldn’t see how that job, incl parts and labour would cost over 400.

I dont do gas but im going to have a good guess at this.Dpt1979 can put me right if im wrong.Vokera price of 650 was to change the internal expansion vessel in the gas boiler.its a far more expensive vessel.Id imagine the boiler has to be stripped to change the internal expansion vessel. So i would think vokeras price was probably correct.
i agree also it should have been a manual filling valve fitted.
There should always have been an external expansion vessel fitted.
I agree with Dpt1979 view on the price

€750 is robbery,a cert should have been issued for the replacement safety valve.

    as said €400/450 is plenty!

    Thanks for the replies all.

I spoke to them about it last week and asked for an itemised invoice with a breakdown for parts and labour because there is no explanation of how the costs arose! Still waiting for it. I had in my head that it would be about half that, so glad to see some people suggesting similar prices to what I had thought.
