Muammar Gaddafi’s plan was to introduce a gold-backed currency called the gold dinar which he hoped African and Muslim nations would adopt. He felt it could rival the euro and the dollar, and rightly so too.

If Qaddafi had succeeded, the United States of America and Europe would have been forced to buy oil and minerals in the gold backed currency thus tipping the scales. This was a horror the West dared not experience and so a high level propaganda campaign was launched against him in Libya and in the USA and Europe leading up to the war.

Right, it all makes sense now, because Gaddaffi with his enormous gold reserves about the size of Greece's, was going to bind together the Arab world (which despised him) and the African world (who tolerated his ravings for cash) and this was going to be a simple process that would be knocked up overnight.

So for the people who discredit this theory what is your explanation? Humanitarian? Despite Libya being one of the most well off in Africa well at least it was until the West decided to bring their humanitarianism to it.

Considering Libya was the richest and most stable country in Africa, he was certainly the best positioned to spearhead the concept. The maintenance of the dollar as the oil trading currency is paramount to keeping the US economy from tanking under the weight of their debt. That/'s why Saddam Hussein had to die as well since he was going to trade oil in Euros.
