Making a Ford to Sony remote controls adapter

    So I finally got around to building an adapter (seeing my daughter learning to drive with the phone in one hand!)
    Its based on a LM3914 led display chip, but instead of leds, connect resistors to send the correct voltages to the Sony headunit. Simple ?

    The reference voltage from the chip is used to supply 5v to the Ford remote; the return voltage is hooked to the voltage divider in the chip to decide which output to turn on. This output is then connected to the Sony with resistors to set the required voltage on the remote input.

    Bear in mind its not easy to get all the correct resistor values. The whole thing is very dependant on Vref generated by the LM3914 chip. You could use a pot, but I dislike using pots in vehicles so i had to parallel resistors to get values close enough. You will need a half decent meter to setup Vref, and check resistors.

    I have attached a spreadsheet for the resistor values, it may give some wiggle room. I didn't show the resistors for Vref, as these chips are not very accurate in this respect.

    The idea isn't mine, I got from the web somewhere. For the life of me, I cannot find it anymore, so cant give credit.
