Have you got mud flaps fitted to the rear?
Not sure what you mean when you say " it hasn't the step in the rear where people put their feet".
If both rear springs were weak, it might account for the problem.
Last thought, what weight are the 3 lads in the back?

most cars have a middle step in middle of car in this car the floor at back is level,

today only one in back two in front average size

its definitely hitting at bottom of car

The car should be able to handle four adults over any ramp without scraping.

Is it one ramp in particular?
    Is car lowered?
    Was it always like this?
    Does car handle well otherwise?

    Check this

If you are going over the ramp at too high a speed you will most certainly scrape it regardless of the car etc. Try go at a snails pace across the ramp and see if that helps.

    Hi Guys

I drive really slow it still does it

It drives great , I would do a lot of carrying people every do often

    As I said passed Nct

    No it wasn't lowered

No but if it's reasonably high

    Yes it always did this

It could just be rubbing against the tray under the engine if it is not attached correctly or slightly broken aswell.

Have a look underneath, if it is as bad as it sounds then there should be scrapes/markings somewhere.

If the shocks on each side are equally fecked then it may pass nct as there is no imbalance.
This is all guesses as we cannot see or test car and only have your comments to go on.

I'd say its likely to be weak springs more than bad shocks, the springs are what hold your car up not the shock/damper which slow how fast the spring rebounds.
Corolla's usually have soft enough springs for comfort and over time they become weakened and have less strength, once you put a few people in the car the load increased significantly and the car rides lower hence the scraping.
If you commonly carry a full load of passengers think about uprating the springs and inflate the tyres to the pressures shown on the door pillar or in the glovebox.
Heavier springs will help more in this regard than anything else.

Loosen wheel studs. jack, fit axle stand, and remove wheel, fit the rubber spring compressor and refit wheel.
A garage would do it on a lift in about 10 mins.

I emailed that guy on eBay this was his response

This wouldn't help with those issues, I would get a garage to check the shocks and springs on the vehicle

I had a Passat dsl many years ago and the fronts were 'bottoming out' sometimes.
I fitted a pair of those and that sorted it out. Very easy to fit.
As mentioned the shocks are there to 'dampen out' the oscillations (bounces) of the spring after its been compressed - they are often referred to as dampers.
So the shocks would have little to do with solving this.
Springs do get 'tired' over time but this car seems a bit new for this - unless it was constantly carrying a lot of weight in the back.
Check the ride height - this should show if springs are sagging and if new springs would be the answer .

That's the tyre width, there is also an aspect ratio and a rim diameter, all of these will be the same overall diameter the only difference is the width of the tyre and height of the sidewall to achieve the same overall diameter.
This will have no bearing on your problem unless the tyres are underinflated.

If the scraping noise is from that cross member you photo'd rubbing the road, what good will taking off the mud flaps do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,673 ✭✭✭torrevieja

True but see if the mud flaps stop it. He thinks something may have gone under when driving
a few weeks ago on M50.
