Clutch jamming and gears sticking

A few months ago (roughly 6 months) I noticed that my car was over revving. When I pressed on the accelerator, the car would rev like it was in neutral and the power didn't seem to transfer to the wheels (if that make sense).

I brought my car to my local dealership and told them what was happening (my car is a 10-year-old Peugeot 207 Diesel btw).

They took it in and rang me to say that they need to replace the clutch, I took their word for it and they replaced it. When I got back into the car after collecting it, the clutch was much easier to press (not that it was difficult before that because that was't the issue that I brought the car in for). So I thought the issue was sorted. Happy days.

Fast forward to now. Yesterday I was driving on the M1 northbound, I was coming off on the slip road and I was going down through the gears and I was slowing down. Suddenly, the clutch got stuck. I couldn't press it down any more and it wouldn't come up. The gears totally jammed in place.

This happened three or four more times since so I'm sending the car in tomorrow back to where I got the new clutch and get a lift to work.

Does anyone here have an idea what may be the problem? I just would like a second opinion in case they try to pull the wool over my eyes.

CiniO, AtlanticDawn, colmmcm, AlansTrainor ....your opinions please ? :)

by any chance did pressure go on clutch pedal as if that happened it could be faulty master cylinder possibly plastic and they can stick and not fully pull up.this will have no bearing on a worn out clutch which needed to be replaced then.

What do you mean by “pressure on it”?

How much would master cylinder cost to replace?

a normal clutch pedal is springy up and down,a faulty one can have suddenly no pressure/resistance when pressing down.no idea on costs sorry

Thanks greasepalm. There was a lot of resistance when I tried to push the clutch down, but I didn’t force it because I didn’t want to damage it.

ok so pedal could not be pressed down all the way, only way of checking that would be to pump pedal to see when it cant be pressed and other person opens bleed nipple to release pressure and pedal should drop.

only if it's a hydraulic clutch...a linkage or cable may have snapped/failed if it isn't.

Interesting, usually clutch problems are that the pedal will not return to top position.
With work recently carried out it difficult to troubleshoot but do let us know what the garage says OP.
