    Hello

I'm doing up 4 bathrooms at the moment. It turn out that replacing taps, showers and mixers is a relatively large item financially when compared to the price of new tiles and the cost putting them in.

Can anyone recommend a place to buy at reasonable/low cost ?

If you are based near D15, CDV plumbing supplies in Coolmine are a decent bunch. That said, you can spend any amount on fixtures and fittings. Crazy variances out there.

Amazon by a country mile, did up three bathrooms lately and they were by far the best.

    Thanks . Very helpful!

I can't find any prices on their website (CDV that is)... But it's probably worth a trip if it saves hundreds of bucks!

Looks like most (if not all) Amazon sellers don't ship over here. Have you asked them offline to ship their products to IE? Or have you used something like parcel motel?

They don't have a website and I wouldn't bother with a trip. Have been there a couple of times looking for specific plumbing items (neither of which they had in stock so would have to order). All that's there is a trade counter so unless you're looking to purchase from what they have behind the counter you'll be buying from a catalogue. Didn't find them particularly helpful on my visits.

I haven't bought taps specifically from Amazon but have purchased larger items such as a shower door and LED mirrored cabinet and the selection of items and prices available beats anything you'll find in this country. The seller via amazon on the shower door wouldn't ship to Ireland but offered free postage to a UK address so I got it delivered to Parcel Motel. It was a large oversize item (exceeded An Post's Address Pal max dimensions of 1.5m) so I had to collect from their depot but all for €7. The shop selling the mirrored cabinet wanted £57 to ship to Irl but again offered free postage to a UK address so again it was an oversize Parcel Motel shipment for €7. Was a bit nervous given the delicate nature of the products but they were well packaged.

For the most part you get what you pay for. The weight of a good tap will be close to double that of a cheap tap. You don't need to spend hundreds but for the most part I'd rather put in a 90 euro mixer to a 45 euro mixer in my own home. The issue I have with online shopping for taps is unless you know the name brand you have no idea on the quality. You'll buy according to the price & design but the quality is more important.

A lot of taps online are designed for pressurized systems. If you don't have a pump you need to stay away from these as the water will dribble out. If you don't have a pump you need tops designed for low pressure.

I did similar with Amazon through Parcel Motel last week.
I bought a vanity unit and saved over €100 on the same item if I'd bought it online here.

We've used https://en.reuter.de/ in the past.

You'll get well known quality brands for the price of no-name taps purchased here.

As others have mentioned, do check the pressure though. We have a pressurised/pumped system so it wasn't an issue for us. YMMV

I've used screwfix a few times. They're not always the cheapest option but maybe a good benchmark. I've found their delivery times and communication excellent.

THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS

JUST TO SAY THAT AMAZON.CO.UK IS BY FAR THE BEST PLACE TO BUY TAPS

ALL THE SHOPS IN THIS COUNTRY DO THE SAME AND CHARGE THE MIDDLE MAN FEE

WE BOUGHT ALL BASIN TAPS, BATH FILLERS, SHOWER MIXERS FOR 4 BATHROOMS ON AMAZON.CO.UK AND SAVED MORE THAN 40%

Do you do much building work at cost price or do you add on a "middle man" fee ;)
