I'm watching the pga world golf championship and I'm unfamilliar with the scoring system. Its very different to any one I've ever seen. The players either have a score in red or green and have an arrow going up or down beside their name. is this just saying your over or under par? I'm very confused by this scoring system and would greatly apreciate it if anyone familliar with this scoring system could help me.

Here you are. Its a match play tournament

Each match is separate and players are divided into pools of 4. They play 3 matches and the winner of the pool proceeds to the knockout stage.

Its called matchplay and each player earns a hole when they beat their opponents score on the hole in question.

I.e. if Rory birdies the first and Vegas pars the first. Then Rory is 1up. If the above happens the same way on the second hole then Rory moves to 2up.

However If Vegas birdies the 3rd hole and Rory pars it, Vegas gains a hole which reduces Rory's winning position to 1up.

Any holes where both players finish in the same number of strokes are deemed halved and thus do not affect the overall score.

Play continues in this fashion until a result is obtained.
