Need to buy oil and filter for a 2015 skoda octavia 2 litre tdi for a friend. He wants to do it without going to the main dealer. I can't seem to get the right info for the right oil. It's either 5w30 or 0w30 but im not certain. It's a new car so any help would be great.

Owner's manual will tell you what spec oil is recommended

I got the manual off him and have an idea what to get. It says vw 507.00 oil only but that's all. Question is how much oil does it take. Only 4 litres in the castrol oil and id say a diesel would take more than that. Can't find the proper info on that.

The 507 is the spec that's the important bit.

Exactly what I thought. Castrol edge is vw 557 but so does Mobil 1 oil which is a bit cheaper. Castrol is only 4 litres for 50 euro and a 1 litre bottle is 25 euro. I just don't know how much oil I need, would 4 litre be enough?

Meant to say vw 507 not 557

4.6 litres of 5W-30 premium synthetic VW spec 504.00/507.00

Cheers for that. 4.6litres of the best oil so, il get that tomorrow so. It costs 159 quid in the main dealer for the service so I won't be saving much for him so. Will cost around 100 quid to do it for him. I might just tell him to bring it to the skoda dealer after all

Up to yourself but for warranty you may need an official record of the oil service.

That does not mean it has to be a main dealer but I would strongly advise making sure a genuine oil filter is used as well as the correct oil.

Official oil filter is a problem, all I can get is mann or bosch and don't know what a garage uses. Won't be able to give a stamp for service records but all the parts will be vw approved. The car is new with very low mileage, the owner of it says he hates paying 159euro for something that can be done cheaper and as good as the main dealer. Id be For Him going To The Main Dealer To Be honest

You can get it done in any garage, doesn't have to be a main dealer. You can buy the filter at the main dealer and supply it to the garage or insist they use likewise.

Yea its 7 euro at main dealer for a filter and il get the right oil and my mechanic to do it. That could sort it and would save money for the guy and it would be official. Cheers

That car surely needs more than just an oil and filter change? For example as it is now 3 years old it’s due its first brake fluid change. What mileage is on it?

There is 12000km on it I think. Small mileage for the year it is. Oil and filter is the main thing due to the fully synthetic oil in it. Haven't spoke to the man yet but I'm swinging towards getting him to bring it to the main dealer for the warranty issue and the service stamp to be honest.
