Best way of selling / "moving on" a non starting car

    Hi,
Hope folk can give some practical advice...

I have a 2004 SEAT Leon (1.4 petrol). It's developed problems with immobiliser that prevent it from starting (now and again ok, but not usually). Tax and NCT just out.
At this stage, I just want rid.

What's the best way to move the car on?
Do I advertise it or are the businesses who'll take it. I would like minimum hassle (in terms of gougers around house!) and ideally to be rid without it costing me to do so.

    Suggestions?
Any difference in paperwork from a normal sale if taken by a scrap merchant?

    There are two options

    * Recycle car at local council depot.
This is free as long as you bring car there. They will take the logbook and must give you an official cert of destruction.

    * Sell or give car away.
You send the logbook to Shannon, don't give it to buyer.

Fault is intermittent, so if I can coax it to start tomorrow I'll give plan A a go.
If it's immobile, will the economics of scrapping mean I need to pay someone to take it or can I expect to find someone to take for zero ?

I had an old one a few years back. Couldn't move/drive it. Got a local scrappy to take it. Got 60 euro for it. Could have shopped around and got a little more, but was just glad to get rid.

Thought I'd close out this one... got car disposed of handily enough.

Registered car with https://www.cartakeback.ie and got quote that they'd pay me €40 and collect car. After filling informs, they say to expect call by 12.30 the next day, however I heard nothing from them.

Then went to http://www.greenermetals.ie/ website looked decent, though they don't pay you for your car. Rang the number and they said they'd be able to collect it the next day, which they duly did. In fairness, they were very precise on the time, said "approx 14.00" and I got a call at about 13.40 from driver to say they were in neighbourhood and should they head my direction.

A bit later I got some missed calls and a text from cartakeback, so they probably would have come through on the deal, just not as soon as initially indicated (quick removal was actually worth €40 to me in my specific case).

One last observation: the driver had a form in triplicate that he completed for certificate of destruction. Whether by accident or whatever he failed to sign & date the actual place where the recycler rep needs to sign. I noticed as I went into the house, so came out again and got him to do that, he said "doing these so many years, don't know how I forgot to do that, etc., etc.,". No idea if there's an angle there (e.g. not truly destroying the car?... but even with signing the form I've no evidence they ever process the other 2 copies from the triplicate book). Anyway, worth keeping an eye on this if anyone else is doing similar.

2 litre petrol. It's been sitting up for years now but is in an underground car park. It might work still!
