Stopcock valve - Old House

    Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. The threads on my stopcock valve are gone. I called a plumber to replace the toilet but he couldn't turn off the valve.

I think I found valve on the road but if I remember correctly it's connected to several houses and has an old antique style valve.

The plumber said that council has to supply me with my own supply. Is this correct? Who would I ring Irish water or DCC. Based on Northside of Dublin in a 19th Century terraced house.

Any help greatly appeciated as the toilet is about to crack

It's usually not a big deal to turn off shared valve for 30 minutes or so. Replace your own valve with a lever valve & turn on the main supply again.

    Try a different plumber.

Thanks will do. I think the value on the road was so old he didn't have a tool that fit it.

For anyone who ever reads this post, I had a plumber come out and froze the pipe while he changed the toilet.

    Thanks for the replies
