Eligibility to serve on Inquest Jury...

    Hi All...

    I realise that anybody who is/was involved in the enforcement/administration of Justice, lawyers, Gardai, etc. cannot serve on a 'regular' jury... As these matters are adversarial in nature, I can see the argument for that... May not agree, but can see the reasoning behind it...

    What I would like to know is, can retired lawyers, Gardai, etc serve on Inquest Juries???... These juries are so totally different... There is no 'blame' attatched to Inquest Juries verdicts, and so I wondered if the same rules apply???...

    I have been a Volunteer Inquest Juror for a few years, and I really enjoy it... I have a few friends who I know would love to do this type of volunteering, but as they are mostly retired lawyers, gardai, etc., I though it wise to check the rules, first... It can be very difficult to get enough jurors to conduct inquests (Min. of six), and the Gardai are often chasing their tails to gather enough people, and it would be nice to be able to take advantage of everybody who is able, and willing to serve...

    They cant serve as they are biased

    that doesnt change if they retire
