Edision OS Mega

Hi, I was hoping someone could shed some light on a sudden stop on my edision OS Mega box.

Family were watching it yesterday and all of a sudden it stopped and turned off. When I reboot the box, the box says welcome on its display and the openvix screen shows on the tv. After about 5 seconds the screen disconnects but display still says welcome.

I have left the box off overnight and retried the above but no change.

This morning I downloaded the latest image and flashed the box in the exact same procedure as I did 6 months ago when I bought it. But when I go to reboot the box after flashing I get the exact same issue as above. I do have an internal hdd connected inside too.

Is my box fried or can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

Seem to have fixed this by disconnecting the internal harddrive and then flashing it. Reflash seems to have fixed it :)

You figured it out yourself, but yes all connected usb and hdd drives have to be disconnected on e2 boxes to reflash. Some boxes require the usb flash stick to be in a certain port.

You should do an image backup so that you can restore it next time around rather than having to go through all the setup again after reflashing.

Or have a channel list saves on your PC so that you can simply flash it back.

Ye was scratching my head for a few moments but we're all good now!

I have saved my channel list now incase this occurs again.

    Cheers

    Hi all,

Same happened to my box over the weekend. It's now rebuilt and working perfectly except for one issue. I cannot toggle between channels. Previously if I pressed 0, I could do this. Anybody know where the setting is?

    Thanks in advance.

If I press 0 now the box goes to channel 1

I'm no help I'm afraid. Still plenty to be learning on these setups :)

Just to update, everything was fine until today when the box repeated my initial query above.

I powered it off for a while and then thought to try access the box over the network. Found the IP, although I didn't get in, it seemed as though it gave it a kick and the box booted in.

I'm not sure if it was by chance but its got me working again.

Would anyone know if there's a way to backup the hard drive to another external drive to prevent loss of recordings etc in future.

    John

    Two ways.

    1. Get free FTP software (filezilla). Install. Login to box from laptop using filezilla. You will need to know the IP of your box (you can get this by going to network and getting info on box that way). The user name will be root and password will be the one you set originally or leave blank if none. Go to media/hdd directory and copy to your PC. Will possibly take ages.

    2. Buy a Sata to USB cable (about 6/7 euro). Disconnect box. Take out HDD. Connect sata to USB cable between extracted HDD and USB port on laptop and copy across (will mount itself as a drive on your laptop)

STB to the rescue again :D I'll get this done to prevent further heartache :o

    Thanks
