    Hi All,
Long story short, jeweller lost my Rolex GMT 2 that was in for a service, they are offering to source the same as mine or give me a new one, they re about the same price, I always preferred the old style but am leaning towards the new one as I would know its history.

    Any thoughts.

    What year was your watch?

As you said yourself, you'd know the history of a new one, but I'd be a bit suspicious of a jeweller losing a Rolex TBH.

    I'm no expert though.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Mine was 2008 perfect have box and papers.
They are a Rolex Authorised dealer and have reported it stolen to Rolex, it didn't go missing someone stole it.

And is yours the older version? (Made pre 2005 from google, non ceramic etc) but bought in 2008?

    Messy situation.

    Just get a new one.

Could you push for a "new old stock" version. They must be out there somewhere in the Rolex network. If it's the AD that has lost it/had it stolen then they may not have told Rolex HQ the full story.

Yours is a awkward age. It's not really very old to be gaining the vintage value but it's far from new.

Is it sentimental? I am guessing not as you don't mention.

I would opt for new personally and request a BLNR. You may have to wait a while but thats the most you can gain financially in a like for like. Obviously don't pay for the service and request a voucher for a free service in 5 years.

Request to be put to the top of the daytona ceramic list also.....

I feel really annoyed on your behalf.

    Second the BLNR.

Whichever you go for, and whether or not the jeweller is at fault, i'd hope they offer a lot more than just a replacement watch. A free service at the very least but a heavy discount on another watch would surely also be in order.

I assume they have gotten the guards involved of its been stolen?

I might be over simplifying it, but if I brought my car into a main dealers to get serviced and it was stolen while in their possession I'd be expecting a brand new car a level up and never to have to pay for another service there again, I'd also be expecting something for the loss of something sentimental.

You would be very disappointed so because you would get none of the above.... and rightly so.

It is in the hands of my solicitor I was just wondering about which one would be the better option,
As for the reply above I hope you never get something that is extremely sentimental to you stolen.

I assume their stock is insured and that Rolex will offer good will. Ask for a replacement, nice new one super expensive.

My reply was to the car analogy, not your situation.

Sorry it's a bit of a sore subject , planned to give it to my son when I was gone.

Dont worry the value there is in that you wore it, not the time you wore it for. Sorry to hear about it.

I'd take this. New GMT Steel with Pepsi Bezel. Shocked that they've produced this. I was certain that the just discontinued PM model would have made this a no go.

Well got a cheque for the price of a new GMT but can't believe the waiting times.
Would I be able to pick one up in a shop in say London.

    Zero chance.

If the AD was honest with Rolex and told them the story they they should be able to get one very fast...guess they didn't. What wait time did they say?

Looking like a year, rang AD in Dublin said much the same 20 on a waiting list, nuts reallly that there is a list for a 8 grand watch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭AmberGold

Yep waiting times for Sport models in the UK are ludicrous, 2 years at least for a BLNR. A lot of the waiting lists at ROI dealers are made up of UK based unauthorised dealers.

Try Hartmann’s. Mine came thru very quickly.

That is absolutely scandalous. I would be straight on to Rolex and explain the situation and tell them you are not prepared to wait a year. I’d be amazed if they weren’t (a) disappointed in the level of customer service from the AD and (b) willing to sort the situation out by supplying the dealer with the model you want ASAP! As mentioned I’d be willing to bet that the AD hasn’t told Rolex that they f*cked up!

I'd say the shop doesn't want Rolex to know because they would lose the dealership.

    This intrigues me.
Is there 20 watch nuts out there not on this forum or does anyone want to stand up and be counted... cough cough Cyrus :)

A lot will be people in the U.K and dealers etc. A dealer in the U.K. Can potentially sell one for 8k sterling. A tidy profit.

One sold on TZ for 7400 sterling last week as a private sale.

Jeweller should be named. As a poster said up thread, there's something not right about the handling of this. Either the watch was 'lost' on its way to a specialist repairer (not in-house), it was pilfered by someone who is possibly being kept out of the courts, or there are concerns about the insurance consequences. If everything was bona fide the jeweller should have made a special arrangement with Rolex for the immediate replacement watch for the customer. Makes me think it's not a genuine Rolex dealer/service agent. And now I'll wonder if that's the place I'm bringing my own old dress Rolex to for a service!!

Main Rolex dealer one of the biggest in Munster, they reported it to their insurance and got paid for it, I had to get my solicitor involved as no compensation offered , all sorted now got cheque for the value of the watch plus compo, didn't want to deal with them again because they were crap to deal with , they got their insurance to contact me who were abrupt as smart.
I have written to Rolex about this, I understood the watch was stolen and that was unfortunate but how they dealt with me left a sour taste and I am not sure I want another Rolex now as the good is gone from it.

    Pretty obvious who it is!

Hit Rolex up on Social Media. Make it visible and noisy.

Realistically you deserve the pick of watches you want IMO.

Imagine this was an engageent ring or similar. Same ballpark.

Wouldn't be celebrating a significant birthday this year by any chance?;)

Not sure on that one.......but there is only one dealer in Munster!

    It was Keanes.

Mad to hear that, I have bought two watches and my Mrs engagement ring from them and they were great. I am also in the process of buying another rolex with them so that's food for thought.
