I just spent the last 2 hr trying to replace a lower ball joint on a 07 astra to find it riveted in and not bolted on

Pull the arm off complete, grind off rivets, may need to drill them as well, then punch the rivets out and bolt the new balljoint in.

The replacement joint usually comes with bolts.

It doesn't have to be a grinder, surely you have a decent screwdriver that can be hit with a hammer to chop the rivet heads off. The rivets are quite soft, a reasonably sharp drill bit in the most puny drill will have them out easily enough.

No hope of knocking the head off a ballpoint rivet with a screwdriver! Needs a grinder and then punch out the rest. Most oem ballpoint would be riveted on OP unless it has adjustable camber, then it's bolts

Those big steel rivets are not the same as the little pop rivets, they are a decent size but once the head is drilled off they will come out with some persuasion.
Do you have a decent drill and good bits?

My mechanic discovered that few years ago on my Laguna II.. Although he was swearing at me for my choice of car(at the time)he had them grinded and punched out in no time, new ones lined up perfectly with bolts :)
