2009 BMW 320d

    Would I be mad?

It's a 2009 n47, 170k miles, full BMW service history, the timing chain was done on it. It's remapped. Am I mad to even consider it given the trouble they have with the chains and the mileage? Worse case scenario if the chain snapped would a second hand engine be easy enough to get? And how much would it cost (i hear they're easy enough to put in if you have the equipment)

Also the dpf was removed, would it fail an NCT on this?

I've been offered it at a decent price and am considering it

Dpf isn't a fail yet but it really should be.

It's an item that you would have to tell your insurer anyway as it's a modification also the remap.

If the chain was done recently it's unlikely to go again. Changing the oil every 10,000 miles is the best insurance policy.

DPF deletes are not NCT emissions failures but they may decide to copy the UK (where it will be from May onwards), if the car gets driven out of town it won't be a problem anyway so I'd be leaving it in (and without wishing to sound like a holier than thou type, they are fitted as standard equipment for a very good reason).

You're supposed to declare remaps to insurance companies, I know many people don't, but some will declare the insurance to be invalid if the car is involved in an accident and they find out.

The DPF is already removed do I won't be putting it back in. My worry is that if the NCT introduce a check on this in the near future I'll have to put a DPF back back in and that's most likely an expensive job.

That's the problem you will take on.

I do hope it becomes a fail.

Devil juice and it's extremely toxic particles are spewing out even more with these devices removed.

Think I'll go with something else. It's a beautiful car with a huge spec at a good price but seems it could potentially bring a lot of hassle

I have mine a few years now I do look after extremely well and it's been a pretty car good, the chain went in it but since I got it done its been absolutely flawless even with the mileage on the high side now. Only other trouble I've had is a sensor.

I feel with a remap though there's more potential for problems
