So we’re on a package trip which includes a number of transfers. Same driver for them all and a nice fella.
One of the group takes it on himself to get a fiver off everyone to tip the driver.

    Is this the done thing?

As far as I’m concerned we have paid for all of this already and the driver is getting his fair wages.

Barmen and waiters get a fair wage but it’s still move to tip. A coach driver probably gets €25,000 p/a.

Seems like a nice thing to do.

How do you know he’s getting a fair wage?

I'd have no problem tipping him but I won't be told how much or pressured into it by a fellow passenger. Fup that.

Do bar staff usually get tipped in Ireland? Seems to be a rarity here imo.

Is this a 50 seater? If it is that would be 250 squid. On top of his wages that would make him a Richard Branson type if he got that every day. A quid at most thanking him fir not driving ye into the ditch....

I’d say it’s a reasonable assumption that he’s getting the going rate.

Yes it’s a nice thing to do, but it’s more the fact that one person decided that we should all do it and kept the hat in front of us until we put something into it.

If they go above & beyond what you might expect, I'd be happy throwing them a few sheckles.

Not mandatory of course, but a nice nod to someone who'd go out of their way to see you right.

Do you not have a whip round of some sorts? Thats what we used to do on the coach to Tranmere Rover away games.

As a coach driver myself, I honestly wouldn't expect a tip, but over the PA system I would usually demand one. I also appreciate a few swigs from a naggan during a long trip, or if I would like a nice trip myself I'd leave the coach on autopilot and have a few tokes down the back with lads when everyone is asleep.

If anyone doesn't tip me they can get the hell off the bus, I usually put the coach on autopilot and walk down to each passenger with the tip jar, ANYONE and I mean ANYONE who refuses to tip Henry Sellers can get the feck off this bus that I am driving right now
