    Hi Guys
SO my Cavalier King Charles looks great after a nice cut and wash, the question is what do you guys as owners use to wash when at home... I am looking to apply something to help as i wash him once a month or every two weeks if out and about but the shampoo we have does not have a great smell and others i have tried are rubbish. Whenever back from the groomers he always has a great smell for a week or so.

Dog powder? Spray? shampoo? any suggestions would be great.

To get a dog smelling really nice like that the only thing I have found to work properly is dog "perfume". I got one free a few years ago but its actually amazing...smells like talc and it lasts for days.

Apparently the black one is very nice too (smells like men's cologne).

I have never used their shampoo but if their sprays have a long lasting smell maybe the shampoo does too.

Every 2 weeks is a bit excessive. Is he rolling in poo or something?

I've used no-tears baby shampoo for years. Seems to work just fine, no skin issues

The pet shop style shampoos wouldn’t be as “strong” as groomers shampoo which is concentrated and then diluted down, so the smell wouldn’t be as strong. The best pet shop ones I’ve found are animology and pet head. But the nice smell usually comes from the doggy colognes. They’re usually around €10 a bottle and Last aaaaaages! My current favourite is Canine One (smells just like Calvin klien :pac: )

If walking in muddy areas then yeah a quick wash and brush up is required...

Our westie loves rolling in fox poo. Cant take our eyes off her in parks. Shes an absolute devil for finding it.
If she doesnt roll in it we'd get a week out of her coat begore she gets grubby and needs a wash. We use tresemme shampoo. Shes never had a reaction and smells lovely till the next roll

What about baking soda sieved through to the roots of the dogs coat? It's good for absorbing smells. Obviously only a small amount and infrequently to avoid a build up.

I don't ever wash mine. The harsh coat that I need would be ruined by most shampoo. Muck or dirt just falls off. Babywipes get rid of dead animal or poo stains.

I do bring them to the beach and they like swimming so that helps.

I've shelties (so lots of coat - though mine would be on the lighter side) and I wouldn't wash mine nearly as often. I generally only wash my girls if they are shedding to speed up that process or if they have gotten really really dirty. I either towel them when I get home after a walk if they are very dirty or if they just damp they stay in the kitchen until they dry. And I would generally walk in forests so they get quite mucky. I just use Johnson baby shampoo.

I can't imagine washing that often would be good for his coat. My parents show dogs and they wouldn't even wash them that often. If you want him to smell nice just get one of the perfumes

I often put their fleeces on out of laziness :o in mucky weather to keep them clean and dry then just wash the fleeces when we come home. If the fleeces are just wet and not mucky a spin in the washing machine has them almost dry - they dry pretty quickly anyways.

That’s not lazy, it’s clever, I do the same & mines only 6.5kg!

Try half and half baking soda and talcum powder?

My wee dog loves to roll in wet grass so clean herself

Can recommend this shampoo too - its only 150 in dealz for a decent sized bottle.
We have a frenchie so they can have sensitive skin but no issues with this and vet said it was perfect.
