Stove installation costs 2018

I’m going to get a stove in. A multi-fuel just for heating the sitting room. Will need a flue all the way up the chimney stack of a 2 storey house. Average quote I got for installation was about €1000, some a bit more or less.

My parents paid €200 to have theirs installed a few years ago but didn’t go all the way up with the new flue. Another relative says he paid €300 for installation with a flue all the way up a two storey chimney.

Some guys told me it would take two of them a whole day to get the flue down, another said it would take him a half day...

Any idea of how much it should cost? I didn’t expect it to be so much, afraid they might be over quoting...

I would assume the lower cost quotes are handymen.
The higher cost quotes are most likely qualified professionals.
Hard to judge timeline for installation based on the info. Can the roof be accessed with a ladder or is a cherry picker included in the price?

Please don’t use an installer without a qualification regardless of price. Eg. Hetas cert

Well all promoted their businesses as being specifically stove/chimney businesses.

Labour alone recently was 600 - This included removal of old fireplace, widening of fireplace, putting in new hearth, stove and fitting of stove.

My quotes have been for running the flue down, supplying the flue, cherry picker, connection to stove. We have to do everything else, e.g., remove old fireplace, install new one, install hearth.

Could you pm me the number for your installer, please? Seems much better value than what I have encountered so far.

Sure the cherry picker hire is what’s bulking up the quote.

A cherry picker can’t be that dear to hire? Approx €1200 seems an awful lot for running the flue down, especially as we have to do everything else ourselves.

What is it €300 for the flue kit?

€100 for a cherry picker for the day?

Just had job done. Removal of 1970's fireplace(about 1.5 tonnes of liscannor stone, blocks and concrete) install an 11kw cassette stove with old log effect mantle over it, put flue up 2 stories and re-plaster 10sq meters of wall, oh and a granite hearth. €4200 total. Stove was €1600 of that.

    hi

does the figures posted include the VAT as i am been quoted 1850 excluding VAT to have a flue
fitted and connected to an existing stove.
Included in that is taking out the fireback to facilitate the flue and make good
the hearth and mantle will remain
i have also been quoted 1100 plus Vat

    big difference

I've been quoted 1300 + VAT for flue and install in 2 storey house with high ceilings, I trust the guy and he came recommended from a large stove retailer

2 grand fully fitted. Went around to a number of other places in South Dublin and they were all quoting €2,500+ for the exact same.

I have just been charged euro 2,500 to install a Hunter herald 8 with just an adaptor and no flue,no cherry picker required. Have I been ripped off?

That Stove and flue kit adapter cost around €1700-1800. So you were charged €700-€800 to install. Maybe a small bit over the odds but not ripped off.

I’ve just been quoted €5,000 all in, stove, hearth, fireplace surround, removal old fireplace, needs to be widened. Seems like a lot now compared to quotes above?

from a stove place in Co. Laois, but I’m based in South Dublin. They hear “South Dublin” and double it immediately?!

can anyone recommend installer in Dublin I could get 2nd quote from. ? Thanks 🙏
