Luke Fitz's peak of 2009 is still better than Stockdale at the moment..

Ya, I'd agree with that. I was more taking up the statement of "anything" that was stated. And dropping the reminder that while Fitzgerald was great, he was only a starter from the tale end of the '08 Six Nations to the '11 Summer Internationals, and the 2015 RWC and warm ups.

He was injured for more or less every other period of time

We are not talking about 2011 or 2015

We are talking about 2009 versus 2018.

    Luke Fitz is better

    Conversation over:p

Lukeys ears lessened his top sprinting speed by 3mph. He should have had them pinned back, or moved.

Definitely helps that the 2018 team has 23 players.

All the current guys would have to do is injure John Hayes and they were gurranteed a win!

What rules would they be playing under though? If it was 2009's rules it'd change everything. 2018's rules and Kidney's lads would be in quite a bit of trouble.

18+ hours later and this thread still hasn't descended into pettiness. Good work everyone.

From my perspective, I probably have forgotten just how good and important both Ferris and Wallace were when they were playing.

As for Stockdale vs Luke, I am one of Lukes biggest fans. I think he was one of the most gifted athletes this country has ever produced.

But the indisputable fact is Stockdale scores tries. He has this insane knack for scoring.

We have +69 on PD. Our nearest competitor is England on +35. Stockdale is almost single handedly responsible for that gap with his 6 tries.

Here is an insane stat. There has been 63 tries total scored this championship. Jacob is responsible for 10% of the tries scored thus far

    Is this real life?

For me the 2009 team was more talented. I'd take the 2018 front row and halfbacks. I'd take the 2009 second row, backrow, centres and back three.

Split the locks! Ryan and POC on the same team would be all types of incredible.

Mixing the wings to give us Earls and Bowe would also be good.

POM, Leavy & Stander is a very good backrow at the moment, especially given all the injuries there. But this thread has made me a bit sad as I realise again how great, albeit rare, a fit Ferris was and also how awesome Wallace was. And Heaslip finished too now.

Off to have a little cry :(

He seems to have missed most of about 2 seasons around 03/04/05. After that he started approx. 10 internationals every year up to his injury in 2011 (before the World Cup).

    75 caps, 68 starts.

    A trip down memory lane.

That tribute doesn't do him justice!

I think the 09 team was a little better. But if we win on Sat, I will change my mind.
