Hi has anyone done a Californian family holiday? We are thinking of going for two weeks June 2019 with the kids 6,8,11.

Maybe 5 nights Disney world, 5 nights San Diego and 5 nights somewhere else?? Anyone done this? Will hire a car. No major budget, would stay in budget hotels and no more than 3 in total, also no major driving routes, would love an adventure but don't want to bore the kids with too much driving.
Anyone suggest an itenery? Would appreciate guidance.

If your planning of going to California and not driving that much then you are going to the wrong place. With kids your age Florida would be a better option, staying on international drive. They have hop on hop of buses and all the hotels have transfers to all the parks.

To be honest Cali isn't really a budget hotel place, it's quite expensive. But if heading that way you could look at staying by the beach for your third part. Long beach, Huntington beach etc or head a little further north to Mandslay Beach area.

Not sure Disney has 5 days in it, don’t think it’s as extensive as Florida.
    Although universal is good

Florida has 5+ Disney parks, Universial, Sea world, Wet and wild and a 35 min drive to Legoland. All this apart from legoland can be done without a car. Find a self catering apartment/hotel where it will run you probably about $200 a night. For five of you that’s not too bad.

California is great for a holiday but it’s very much centered around seeing places rather than doing theme parks

San Diego has sea world, San Diego zoo USS Midway, gaslight quarter, mission beach.

LA. Has Santa Monica pier, Disney, California adventure, Knotts, Hollywood, universal studios, Warner brothers

SAN Francisco has Alcatraz, the pier, Nob hill, presidio, Castro street, redwood national park (just north),

There’s also Monteray, Santa Barbara, bixby bridge, Carmel, Yosemite, all along the way.

Great place to go but a lot of driving

If you just want to go to theme parks, then go to Orlando. Was there last year and had the best holiday ever with kids

Planning California for next year (I’ve been several times, but will be their first)

We did a California road trip last Easter. Started in San Fran then drove Yosemite NP, Lake Tahoe, Death Valley NP then finished with a day each in Disney and Universal and flew out of LA. It was amazing and although there was a lot of driving it was easy and the kids loved every minute

I totally agree with the above poster. It’s all really going to depend on what type of vacation your looking for. With kids your ages personally I would do Florida if you already haven’t done that.
