Who is liable for a missed connection ?

    Hi,

I was looking for a flight from Dublin to Hong Kong. I found one through Helsinki with Finnair. It connects through Helsinki and the connection time is just 40mins. If I was booking the two tickets independently I would never risk such a short connection time (if the Dub -> Helsinki is just 20mins late and the Gate for Helsinki -> HK closes 20mins before flight then you are screwed). I'm just wondering though am I correct in the assumption that if I book the entire trip on finnair.com as a trip from Dublin to Hong Kong that if there is any delay resulting in a missed connection that it is Finnair that are liable to sort it out, I mean could they still say 'tough luck you should have allowed longer for connecting', despite them selling it as a Dublin -> Hong Kong ticket ?

    Thanks,

    Usjes,

The airline is. , while you may make the connection you can be guaranteed that your bag will not. So bring a change of clothes in your carry on luggage as you’ll need it till your bag appears in your hotel

Both the inbound and outbound will operate from the non-Schengen pier in HEL so there is going to be a very short distance between gates with no security checks etc.

But if the flight from Dublin is on one of their Embraers it'll be a bus transfer to the terminal.

That said, the HK flight will probably be a few minutes late departing so the connection is doable.

I will 100% be doing this on every trip I take from now on. Our bags got lost on the way to Chicago and the hassle of trying to find somewhere to buy some basic clothes! So will always be packing undies and at least a change of top from now on
