Easter Eggs.

It's been quite a long time since I've been in Ireland during the Easter period, and I have nieces/nephews which I would like to buy some decent Easter Eggs for.

So, I've been buying a few to try out but mostly they've been disappointing. Thin chocolate egg shell and very few small sweets inside.

So... wondering which Easter Eggs are the best value for money? Not necessarily the cheapest, but those that you feel satisfied with getting them.

Usually end up getting one with a mug. I know you said not the cheapest but supermarkets will often do a five for five euro offer on eggs, can be handy.

A few years ago it was next to impossible to find a Snickers one. Now they’ve made a big comeback and are available everywhere. Wonder if it’s cyclical?

There’s eggsellent value to be found in larger chain supermarkets, you’d be a mad yolk to shell out for them.

Most people I know give people a few of the medium Easter eggs which are 5 for €5 at Tesco now. Overall they work out cheaper than the large eggs and you get more chocolate.

5 Easter eggs for €5 in Tesco ;) not a bad size and they're Cadburys or nestle ones. Buttons KitKat etc.

It's the chocolate to euro ratio we're after folks!

Cadburys have gone to the dogs.

A Mars egg is your best bet. Or Galaxy. They haven't changed too much.

Still all very waxy chocolate though.

You used to get that lovely cracking sound when you tucked into one. Not any more :(

That's a commitment to excellence from the OP that you seldom see
nowadays. A refusal to accept second best. They've gone and decided
to buy and eat all Easter Eggs that they might potentially choose to
give. It's a wake up call to the rest of us.

If you really want a fantastic egg I would recommend Lily O'Briens honeycomb egg - not the one in a box, its just the egg wrapped in blue foil stuff.

    Quality egg.

Fill the eggs with pure chocolate or fiber glass IDK I'm not the uncle here.

A neighbour just gave me a goose egg.... I intend to "blow" it and paint it.

I find local independent delicatessens have lovely easter products. They are definitely not the cheapest but as a once yearly treat they are always more than satisfying. Usually beautiful to look at and always gorgeous chocolate.

In these enlightened and more secular times Easter eggs no longer exist.

The nieces and nephews would be thrilled if the OP gave them that.

I'm a traditionalist and find you can't beat the larger Cadbury eggs. Thick shell and decent chocolate.

Lindt or Thorntons. Lindt would be my first choice.

Thanks, folks. I'll try the ones suggested myself and see.

Easter eggs me crank. Kids have had too much of easter egg nonsense the last lame 20 years. What they need is a dose of the real world. You'd be better off making a couple of Toasted cheese & shredded ham sandwiches laced with mustard and fried egg on top of the thing served with a pint of Guinness.

Couldn't agree more, Cadburys was destroyed by Kraft, sugar now number one ingredient, its pure *****. My sis in law works there, I can get bars for 15 cent, and I don't bother anymore. More cocoa in a can of coke. And to think what a bar of wholenut was like back in the day.

I don’t really like either of those chocolates. People especially go gaga for Lindt but I’m always left underwhelmed.

If you really want to push the boat out, Hotel Chocolat in Dundrum do excellent quality chocolate, but it does come at an often silly price.

Right. No. My family behaves a bit differently than others regarding candy/chocolate. It's pretty much limited to certain occasions. We can do what we want when we're adults, but while we are/were children, there wasn't much sugar going around. My sister has continued that kind of thinking with her kids.
