I was delighted to see an Irish dog, the border collie take the pastoral group!

I would love to go to but I think I'd need to remortgage the house and charter a plane for what is buy! The collie was gorgeous but I loved the pumi.
I was watching a live stream of the youth agility final earlier. I felt they were almost trying to trip the handlers up with the course. So many of them were eliminated for the same thing, the dog came over a jump and ran onto the dog walk instead of going through the tunnel. Very disheartening for a young child, some of the more mature competitors were able to adjust their run and brought the dog around the right hand side after the jump so that the tunnel was more in the dogs view.

I felt so sorry for the little 10 year old who clearly got lost half way through, you could see the disappointment in her afterwards. It was a very challenging course for such young competitiors!

I normally go every year but took a year off this year. The Border Collie is a stunner and is also from Ireland. I know the owners very well.

Think of the revenue he's bringing in for them - they said he got over 2 million hits on youtube last year!

You bet me to it!!!!! Was looking forward to seeing Ollie :)

Mr C really enjoyed watching the agility, never thought it would happen as he usually is very vocal when he sees other dogs. No interest in the fly ball though.

Anyone see who won the terrier group or has it been announced yet?

The Scottish Terrier. Same owner as the BIS one several years ago

I really love the whippet that won the hound group. She’s a beauty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,291 ✭✭✭em_cat

Agree, the winning whippet was a stunner, but my goodness the saluki, absolutely gorgeous!!!

We ended up watching the Last Leg & they had a daschund with wheels performing on a mini adapted agility course, ‘‘twas the highlight of my evening...

Have been enjoying it immensely!! Absolutely love Tease the whippet so will be rooting for her in the final :D The border collie is also a stunner! Milo has been loving the agility and flyball. His little eyes dart all around the screen when he's watching it!!:)

Stunning Akita that took the utility!

I went for the terrier and hound day yesterday. My first time there and it was fab! I’ll definitely go again. If you book early enough it’s a relatively cheap day out - £15 admission and we got flights with Ryanair for €30 booked last October! There’s a free shuttle running from the airport to the NEC (2 minutes) so you don’t have to worry about transport etc. We spent a lot of time walking around the halls but next time I go I’ll spend more time in the main arena. If you’re flying you’re limited as to what you can buy for bringing back so this saved me! Loved the agility and the fly ball - the barking of the dogs - they were so excited! It was just fab!

I think Bella would've had serious beard envy if she hadve seen the mini schnauzer in the utility group!

I love gundog day. I wouldnt normally be a lab/golden person (sorry tk123!!!) but the gundog display makes me LOVE them.

I also kind-of want the very dry-humoured gundog lady to commentate my day-to-day life...

Think it was worse, fair play to the owner she gathered her dog up and got the hell out!!

I'm guessing PETA protestor or something.

That's what I thought as well, TJ.

Really hoped for the Newfie, BC, Papillon or Akita to win... I obviously know nothing about dog showing. :P

I think it might have been more than one that got in.
It looked like two in different places.

I noticed none of it happened near the Akita.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭Bells21

I don't think that akita would've done much more than lick them to death! Fair play to the whippet owner, she spotted the leg lift and it's head jerking and she was off, no one was getting near her dog. If they were peta activists are they not absolute hypocrites scaring the bejesus our of the dogs like that.

I am an FCI Group 7 Judge - Hunt, Point & Retrieve Breeds. That Pointer was Stunning. All really lovely Group Winners.

She sure whipped the Whippet out of there. Then the hands grabbing the Trophy made me laugh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,246 ✭✭✭jellybear

Awh I'm delighted Tease won. We were rooting for her in this house!! She's just so stunning.

Such a shame to take away from the handler's moment and you could see how shaken she was. Fair play to her for reacting so quickly and for protecting her dog.

Really enjoyed watching it the last few evenings :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,003 ✭✭✭SillyMangoX

Well that was... eventful :o PETA have to be the most hypocritical organisation I’ve ever come across. Apparently they put down more dogs than they save.
I was rooting for the Akita, but the whippet and pointer were very worthy winners. Absolutely stunning line up this year, and I loved that none of the dogs were too over exaggerated, and all looked like fit healthy dogs should do.
I say this every year, but I’m determined to go over next year! Will have to start saving now for all I’ll buy :D

Yeah, No messed up breeds got to the final which might get a point across.
The one GSD I'v seen in the show was still a disfigured dog.
Maybe they will get the message.

Reading through the comments a lot of people have raised a very good point. Given the plight of all the terrorist incidents as of late, this was hugely irresponsible not just for terrifying the dogs but also the crowds. I know if I was there I would be really shaken because everyone immediately would think of the worst :(

Totally wrong place for them,it's not like the owners eat the dogs after the show is over.
The dogs are well looked after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,763 ✭✭✭Knine

They could actually have been shot dead. Crufts would definitely be a target for terror attacks. Be a terrible shame if the Police Demo Dogs had of been on standby. Security is usually much more on the ball. I was once caught giving someone a free entry ticket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,350 ✭✭✭Jeff2

They were protesting extreme breeding and this year none of the dogs on that floor were badly breed.
    Wrong stage PETA.

It's like protesting for gay marriage when we are voting for or against the 8th.

PETA don't actually care though. They don't give a damn about the animals in reality, they just want to stir mayhem. Most of the members are either ignorant of what PETA is actually like, or jumped up loons who believe even owning an animal is cruel. They spread blatant lies and put down their "rescues". They're the worst thing to happen to the plight of animal welfare, completely undermining the cases of genuine cruelty with their crap. I am very much pro animal welfare, and very much anti PETA (in case you couldn't guess from the post!).

Thourghly enjoyed being able to watch the live feed on u tube. The agility heats were fascinating & quite heart warming to see the lovely bond the handlers displayed.

Not too keen on the parade judging but know it’s necessary.

The only dogs that I was not terribly happy about was the smushed black face fluff ball (not sure what the breed is called) and the French bulldogs eyes popping...kind of creepy to say the least...

Fell in love with the border terrier and Jack Russell.

    Looking forward to next year!

To who ever posted that the Akita would likely lick the people that were running in.
If the owner was frightened then the dog would attack and defend the owner.

I accept your point but my Jack Russell would also likely do the same in such a situation. Don't think it's fair to single out a breed to be more likely to attack than others, that's how we end up with breed specific legislation and lists of 'dangerous dogs'.

Apparently the PETA folks that ran on were part of the PETA "Vegan Strike Force".

Happy with the win here, what with the resident idiot being pointer x whippet it’s like Finn won the whole thing :D

Fair enough, but what are the kennel club doing to fix the issues with many breeds? I suggest sweet **** all

I'm afraid you're going to have to clarify how that relates to my post? PETA don't care about breed standards or issues, and won't make any attempt to address issues. To be honest, if someone wants something done about it, they'd better hope PETA stay out of it.

As for the answer to your question, I'm not going to pretend to know. I don't breed dogs or have much dealings with the kennel club.

Are you involved with the Kennel Club? I can assure you that that an awful lot is being done to fix the issues.

Who health tests the designer breeds? All Best of Breeds at Crufts were throughly Vet Checked. The system is not perfect but it is getting better all the time.

I would suggest PETA go harrass the puppy farmers, Bull Fighting, China cruel f**kers, intensive farmers etc etc. They have now just shown Terrorists that Crufts is a nice tasty target for the future.

Most Show Dogs are extremely well looked after and loved, much more so then your average pet in fact. If it were not for dedicated Pedigree Breeders we would lose the lovely Quality Breeds that we love so much.

10 months ago you were looking to buy a pup off done deal. By doing this you personally are contributing to the issues. Now you are holding the kennel club responsible for the ignorance of the masses buying pups off adverts sites

What I was saying is that they avoided that dog and the Nuffie just to be on there safe side,.

My JRT would have got defenceive. I think most would.

They went to the side where it was lass likely to get a dog on them.

What makes you think the Pointer was in heat? The answer is no. She was not in heat at that show. She was clearly not being dragged around as she showed really well.

You do realise that just because a bitch is in heat you don't have to lock them up? It is completely normal for a bitch to be in heat and continue her normal activities. Usually however they are not shown but only because it will upset the males.

Thanks Ms Marple, there's always one that trawls through your history  I ended up purchasing a TT based on a recommendation from the breed secretary. Coincidentally the breeder later advertised on DD, so please don't tar all people who advertise on DD with the same brush.

Maybe it's a Cork thing, but I said fair enough in my original post, as in I am agreeing with the poster. My issue is that the KC are responsible for breed standards yet there are a hell of a lot of health issues with certain breeds and still puppy farms churning out pups with their KC papers. Sure you may argue that it requires whistle blowers or the public to advise them about puppy farms, but could they not be more proactive? With regards to ongoing health issues with certain breeds, change the standard, stop breeding from dogs with known issues, insist on hip scores .... They are responsible for the standard and should be held accountable
