Exterior wall paint flaking .

Hi , got our 7 year old house painted for the first time 3 years ago. Paint is flaking now in a good few large areas mostly in on the walls most exposed to the wind and that rarely get the sun.

The guys that painted it are professionals with a long running local businesses.

They said it didnt need a PVA sealer when painting it initially.

Now what are my option with regard repainting it . The guys that painted it initially say power wash the house , pva seal the areas that flaked and repaint.

Will that suffice , any other options or suggestions?

Power wash to remove flaking paint. You can then get a bonder to mix in with the new paint called Owatrol E-B ( Emulsabond). This is a stabiliser and bonder all in one. I generally add about 1 litre in with 10 litres of paint ( think the recommended mix should be 4:1 but not necessary imo). It's expensive stuff but well worth it.

Thanks for the info , should i add the bonder to all the paint I'm putting on or just on the patches that flaked.?

If it's flaking on just one wall or two, then paint the entire wall with paint mixed with EB. No need to do the good walls.

Btw, you only need to add it to the 1st coat. You just use regular paint thereafter ( I would recommend Sandtex or weathershield)

It was weathersheild cobblelock we used last time so probably stick with the same again.
