I'm hoping to look at a 08 BMW 520d tourer today.
It's got 150k miles on it and recently got a fresh 2 year NCT.
The seller is seeking €4450 for it.
He assures me that the timing chain is done and has the evidence from the garage.
    Is it a decent price?
    What should I look for?

If it is the following one I’d be wary as the seller is a kerbside dealer with the main intention of just flipping the car with no warranty.

I’d thoroughly check the paperwork for the timing chain and ring the garage who did it to confirm it.

That one has no leather and is a manual which in pretty bog standard.

If I needed an estate of that class I’d be looking at the latest Honda Accord Tourer.

If looking at more of those BMW's check if the diversity antenna is working or has been replaced. It's a costly replacement if it's broken. To check if it's working turn on the FM radio and make sure you are getting adequate signal, also check that the remote opens the car from a normal distance away.

You can google for more information on it. The unit is just behind the top brake light in the rear hatch and connects to the shark fin antenna on roof and smaller antennae embedded into rear window.

A manual with no leather that’s enough to take a wide berth.

    What’s the budget?

    I've about 4500, I'm going out later to look at a 09 C5 1.6d saloon and a 10 Mondeo estate, 2.0d zetec

Do you need a big estate the 5 series, eClass and A6 are on the larger end.

I'm hoping to find a larger estate, but 08 upwards.... a tall order.
    Any opinions on this one?
Miles are bit high, but plenty of work done and a dealer stamped FSH

The Modeo looks great and the main dealer stamps make me think any work needing done was done.
I'll have a look this evening and report back, but is there anything tell tale I should watch out for?

Mondeos are great for high mileage especially the 2.0 tdci and are reliable too. just check for the synchro in the gearbox and normal wear and tear of the clutch. Timing belt replacement is only 300 euro too.

It's a pity that Mondeo isn't the Titanium model as it has far much nicer spec and nicer more supportive seats. The seats in Zetec models and lesser models look tired.

Keep in mind though that a full service history can mean it had just an oil and filter change or it had a major service all fluids brakes etc.

Keep in mind though that the market for an estate with over 200k miles for 4.5k is limited as not everyone wants an estate especially as big as the Mondeo and those that do won't want an estate with 200k miles. this might be good for you now from a handling perspective but remember when you want to sell it on.

Maybe for a bit more you could find a Mondeo Titanium with a little less miles.
I sold a 2010 Mondeo Titanium hatchback (new model) privately for 7,500 euro last December with 115,000 miles.
