There are other tests that can be done:

AMH blood test will test your egg reserves.
HSG checks to see if you have blocked Fallopian tubes.
Semen analysis for your partner - a third of fertility issues are on the male side.

The above are just the ones I know about / had done.

    What did your Gp suggest?

it was the receptionist I spoke to earlier. not the doctor.

just assumed that the amh blood test and hsg was checked already in day 2 or day 21 test

my other half had the semen check already and all fine there

The AMH test is a different test that has to be sent away to a specialist lab. Did your GP take two blood samples? It also costs about 80 or 90 Euro.

The HSG is a test done in a hospital where they push fluid through your cervix and they take X-rays as it fills the Fallopian tubes to check for blockages.

I was looking for a link on AMH and found the below link from the fertility clinic I attended which goes through the various investigations they would do.

    thanks so much for that.

Im not sure about what exactly was tested for other than day 2 and day 21. so when spoke with receptionist I assumed because they said day 21 bloods were fine that I'd ovulated and just carry on trying as normal! guess not. I will make another appt with doctor during week.

    thanks for all the information.

oh.. when I was in doctor having day 21 bloods taken she just said to me that if these come back OK that I've to throw away the clear blue monitor as most couples gets pregnant on 2nd year of trying (yes I'm 36! & time ain't on my side )

Unfortunately there could be lots of other issues that wouldn’t show up in those blood tests or of course you could be fine and just need a bit more time.

I suppose it all depends on what kind of person you are. Are you happy to just go back to trying every month and relax or will you just be totally stressed out by it and still worried something is wrong. If it’s just going to stress you out then maybe getting a referral to a fertility clinic (or self referring) and getting a full check up is the way to go? At least then you have the full picture of what’s going on.

I hope this doesn’t freak you out more but I’m the kind of person who wants to know all my options and I want to give you that information as well.

I think you should talk to your doctor rather than the receptionist. I'm not giving medical advice here other than go and get proper medical advice form your GP, but when my bloods were done my progesterone was 18 and I was told it was too low, that it should be over 30 to indicate ovulation had taken place.

"my other half had the semen check already and all fine there"

GalwayDonegal, can I ask where he got this done? Did he just go see his GP? Or to a fertility clinic?

I'm waiting for day21 blood results at the moment.

Can someone explain how the Day 21 blood test works, I've had another failed month of trying after 6 months, we haven't had any checks done yet, not sure where to start, can you just make an appointment or is it a specific time of the month.

Yes, just go to your GP. Make an appointment and say you'd like your day 3 and day 21 bloods done. Make the appointment for what will be day 3 of your cycle. These are your baseline figures for the various hormones they check for. You'll then go back on roughly day 21 to see what your levels are like after ovulation and this can highlight any problems that might exist. It isn't always day 21. Do check with your GP about this, but from what I remember I think it's a week before the last day of your cycle. So if your cycle is 26 days, like mine, you'd go back on day 19. Again, I might have that slightly wrong so do check with your GP should you go back on day 21 or on a different day based on how long your cycle is, or even what to do if your cycles are somewhat irregular.
