Existing Sky dish on new house

I've had a search but haven't found anything, apologies if there's duplication.

I've moved into a new house with a south facing back garden. There is a Sky dish mounted on the back of the house with a single cable run inside to the sitting room at the back of the house, as well as two other rooms which have now been removed by us.

I've bought a second hand Sky+ box and hooked it up, reset it, set it to single cable mode etc. but am still getting a message saying it cannot connect to the satellite.

Any advice for my next diagnostic steps? It wasn't stated when we took the house if it worked or not, but the fact that it was wired into three rooms would make me think it was working.

    Thanks in advance!

The satellite dish may not be pointing at the Sky satellite (28 degrees). There is a rudimentarysignal checker on the sky box, somewher under services - settings - signal that will show the signal strength, signal quality and maybe a code identifying the satellite.
