So i handed in my notice of 2 weeks to my boss and now she is saying I have to give a months notice before I leave which I do not agree with as I am still on probation period. It states in my contract that my employer only has to give me 1 weeks notice to let me go while on probation period. I think it I am being very nice to give 2 weeks notice to them consedering I have only worked here for 3 months aswell as that I am still on probation period! Any advice woukd be great! I have been told by several people that I shouldnt give 1 month notice

How much notice do you have to give your employer - is this stated in your contract?

It says 1 month notice and it says if my employer wants to get rid of me after my probation period they also have to give me a months notice BUT it says while on probation all they have to give me is 1 weeks notice to get rid if me I think its only fair that i have to give 2 weeks notice ?

If you already have another job lined up and don't need them as a reference I'd just do the 2 weeks.

What will they do? Take you to court? Very unlikely. Therefore, it's your call as to whether you want to take that risk.

A friend of mine who has a HR Management degree and who indeed worked in a public sector HR office told me that one week is all you have to give, regardless of what a contract may state or try to dictate. I've never personally left a job to test it out but I'd trust him TBH :)

Employees - Employees who have been in continuous employment for at least 13 weeks are obliged to provide their employer with one week’s notice of termination of employment. If a greater amount of notice is specified in the employee’s contract of employment, then this notice must be given
