Boot door - NCT fail?

My mum has a '04 Passat TDI and its NCT is out in a couple of weeks. In the last few weeks her boot door stopped opening from the switch on the door itself.

The switch on the boot door and switch in the cab has stopped working. However, the boot release on her key fob works and so does and you can also open the boot door using the barrel on the door itself. The car has had other work done to repair a driver's door handle mechanism that failed and the job was rough, tbh, and some electrical aspects of the door no longer work as a result - the door open switch (inc the headlight-on warning buzzer etc).

How is she fixed for the NCT? Will the switch on the fob or using the key in the barrel suffice for the test? If not, will they complete the test anyway?

It's very likely the car will be getting sold after the test regardless - if there's a long list it will be scuttled and if it passes without too much hassle, we will sell it privately. We're just hoping to test it and see what way to go then but I'm just worried maybe they will have to abort the test if they can't open the boot.

should be fine. What I have done in the past is after I hand in the keys I sit in the car and when the tester comes out I would explain the situation to him/her; that there are still two ways to open the boot.

    Is that the criteria??

If the boot can be opened using key or fob etc then it will be OK .

My car has a similar issue

When you put the key in the boot lock and turn it's goes a bit around to the point you think it's unlocked but you need to push ot a littler harder to hear the "bzzz" noise of the locks unlocking before you can press the key in to open the door which opens. It's an 04 zafira so it's the only way to open the boot

Thing is if you didn't explain it to someone they would think the boot lock was broke when it's actually not.

My nct is due soon too so not sure if I should have that looked at or if I explain will it pass?

I think most of the testers are well aware of the fact that boots can be opened in a number of ways - i have seen a Passat pass which could only be opened with the key and you had to be careful not to turn too far etc ; fiddly.
Other cars have also passed with the release not working that well ; the deciding factor seemed to be that the boot could be opened and closed.
If that is all the car has failed on you could often show the tester that the boot could in fact be opened and that would be acceptable; depends on the individual tester I suppose .

    The car passed!!

I drew a little arrow with the note "Barrel" on a piece of masking tape. Nothing was said apart from 'drive on, here's your cert'!!

    Cheers folks.
