    Hi all
Long story short,as part of taking up cycling, my son is doing turbo training in a group.
He has been recommended to get a garmin edge 520 with hrm and cadence to make the most of the turbo training session.
he already has a new garmin forerunner 235 watch that he only got at xmas because he does a bit of running too.the watch does heart rate

The edge 520 is coming in at €300 .
Is there a cheaper solution using the forerunner 235 with something for cadence

The Forerunner 235 connects to a Garmin cadence sensor (which would be exactly the same as you are using on the Edge 520)

They tend to cost around 30 euros

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Garmin-010-12102-00-Bike-Cadence-Sensor/dp/B00JLMRXCQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1520201991&sr=8-3&keywords=garmin+cadence+sensor

Screen might be different / not be in front of you all the time etc. but that will give you the exact same cadence measurement. The sensors work with different devices too, so if he does want to get a cycling computer later, he can buy a cheaper one without the sensors and use the one he already has.

    Thanks lads

you see, he took up running last year and we bought all the gear.

now with the cycling, he's just got a new bike and frankly we'd like him to put in a bit of time at the cycling before we spend more.

I see that there is a cadence and bike speed sensor for around 50 euro
Would that be a better buy

The speed sensor may not be needed for the turbo training but could be used on a bike later
