Hey, I booked a two night stay and cruise with a large online travel agents based in Ireland. It was all as part of a package. Out outbound flight was cancelled and we missed our cruise. Who gives us our lost money??? The airline, the travel agent or the cruise line which had the package to begin with.

I’ve travel insurance as well. Just curious as I want my fact straight for the morning

You may be able to claim back the cost of the flight (as it was cancelled) and the cruise (did you say they didn't sail?) but at the end of the day, you claim all non-reimbursable money from your travel insurance.

Talk to the travel agent first and mention that you have travel insurance, they should be able to tell you how to handle it.

Ship sailed this evening. Flight didn’t.

Ok, you said in your first post 'and we missed our cruise and this didn’t travel', I think that was a mistype and you meant to say 'and we missed our cruise and thus didn’t travel.'

You will have lost the value of the cruise so you'l have to claim that from the insurance and whatever you cannot get back from the airline.

But you mentioned that it's a package which I assume means transfers were included so you will probably end up claiming the entire cost of the package in a single claim rather than the individuals fares.

Talk to the travel agent, see what they say and hang on to all of your receipts and e-mails.

My understanding (albeit limited) is that if it was booked as a package then the travel agent assuming they are IATA will re emburse but I would imagine you would have to have taken reasonable steps to make it for the cruise part, possibly tried to engage with the travel agent.
You should contact them first thing in the morning as they will have lots of this to deal with.

I think you're referring to the bonding scheme which tour operators and travel agents are required to be members of. Tour operator bonding might cut in to help you if the cruise company went bust but I think for weather events, you have to fall back on travel insurance.

Ah fair enough I thought if the first leg wasn’t available then the rest was nulled but as I said I don’t really know.

They shut up shop. Made no contact with us to even let us know that flights were cancelled never mind trying to reroute us

I'm pretty certain that in the case of a cruise purchased as a package, if the initial flight is cancelled or if it's delayed to the point that you cannot make the connection with your cruise ship, the entire holiday is considered abandoned and you claim off the insurance.

The suggestion that you have some kind of a responsibility to make alternative arrangements I think is misinformed, the whole point of a package holiday is that all that is required of you is to show up on time in the airport with your passport.

We were going to miss a flight before because of really bad snow (where we live), even though the flight actually went OK, therefore losing the accommodation and other bookings but the agent agreed to arrange full reimbursement with the airline and hotel so check with them right away before you go to insurance.

We booked the entire package with the agent but did contact them about two days before we were supposed to travel.

Check your insurance policy document. There may be a trip abandonment clause.

Update———— travel agents refunded us the money in full without any hassle
