    Hi folks,

I’m planning to buy a vintage car and bringing it over to mainland Europe during an extended drive through England, France etc. After that I’d like to reg it in Germany on Vintage plates. So my question is, can I get kind of a temporary reg and insurance for a week or so to cover the journey?

    Thanks and kind regards!

Ireland don't do temp registrations and insurance companies here do not offer short term insurance.

You can buy insurance and then cancel it though. You’ll lose out on some of the pro rate refund but not a lot.

Not sure why you’d buy a classic car in Ireland though.

    Thanks guys.

I was here for two years. Working, living and traveling the country and I always wanted to have an old defender. Now I want to take the opportunity to buy an old landy as both a memory of the time over here but also as something that I can enjoy back home...

So basically I have to insure and tax it as normal and then cancel it again?

It’ll probably have been originally registered in the UK, can’t see why you wouldn’t just buy one there!
