Is there such thing as a dealer in the south who will buy the car with the UK reg?

Moved home from the UK a few months ago and brought my car, have all the correct paperwork etc.

I just want rid of it as I now have a company car, and instead of going through the VRT malarky was wondering if there was someone who buys them as they are.

I'd say most would, they source alot of cars in the UK already so you could save them the trip. Be prepared to take UK value trade in money though.

Also depends on the car, if we're talking 10 year old Corsa no chance, but sub 8 year old BMW, Audi, merc, vw vw or Skoda probably would be suitable

It's an 8 year old VW Polo 1.6 TDI. Only 46k miles on it because I worked at sea for half the year - but yeah I'd be alright with UK trade value.

If anyone knows of any traders please let me know - ideally southeast of possible.

I'd say just ring your local dealers, probably aim for mid level guys, rather than branded main dealers

You are likely to be VRT exempt if you hold on to it for a bit and then you could sell it for a better price.

Sell it privately through the likes of donedeal or try selling it up North.

You can’t sell it within 12 months.

Is a dealer likely to have hassle if they buy it and go to VRT it? They won't be able to show when they brought it into the state.

Nah, it’d be easier for a dealer as they can have it in the state as long as they want.

Is it not suppose to be registered by the private owner within a certain time of being imported into the county. Do they not ask for proof of import date or are these falsified ?

Dealer is the only person who can legally buy the car, if they have a revenue account, any other person is technically not able to buy it, it should have been registered within 30 days of import so a normal resident can't buy it. What happens in the real world is a different matter.

Had a dealer private message me on this, will see if anything comes of it.

Yeah but is the dealer not supposed to import them himself, rather than buying cars that are now illegally imported and past their registration date ? Or do dealers pretend they are the ones that imported them recently ?

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Why is it not considered possible that a private buyer could buy the OP's here and then VRT/register it, given the circumstances? They would be buying from the V5 registered keeper/owner. Pay a late penalty of demanded. I'm sure the OP could provide a covering letter.

It's not like buying from Flash Harry.

The buyer will have to pay the late VRT penalty, if they are honest, when they can source one without penalty themselves. The OP can write any letter they want a vehicle imported into Ireland has to be registered within 30 days. The only way the OP could do anything is to register it themselves and apply for the exemption, but then they can't sell for 12 months.

What would you need to show when registering it? A ferry ticket print out?

If you bought it in England, Wales or Scotland. If you go North a receipt is all they need, it can be written by anyone ;)
