yesterday night because of the storm, a piece of my roof fell, today a neighbor came to say that it might have scratch her car, and that i have to pay for it. So my question is, is it my responsibility to fix her car?. I mean, i didnt scratch it myself. it was an accident because of the wind, some advice here? i dont even think the insurance will cover it. Thanks for the help you can give

    She needs to prove it.

    Scratch could be from anything.

I think your house insurance might cover it. A few years ago my neighbour was mowing his lawn with an electric rotary mower which threw up a stone and dented my car door quite badly which his house insurance covered.

Your neighbour doesn't sound too sure. Besides, no one saw it happening, as said previous, scratch could be completely unrelated. I wouldn't pay anything.

Check the public liability cover your Home insurance policy gives you in case you need it. There might be an excess that's more than the cost of her repair.

But before you invoke that, or pay out yourself, she'd need to prove that the bit of your property caused the damage.

If a tile or something came off my neighbour's roof in a storm and damaged my car, there's no way I'd be going after them for the cost, even if I had it on video. Sh!t happens, and sometimes you have to just suck it up. But that's me and not her. In your situation, I wouldn't feel bad giving her a flat out "no" about it. If she comes to you with proper proof, let your insurance company deal with it.

A roof tile hitting a car could very easily cause it to be a write off. Fair play if you don't mind buying a new car because your neighbor didn't maintain their property properly.

I'm talking about minor damage, like that in the OP. But I'm glad to specifically point that out to you, as it seems to have caused you some concern.

House insurance is not like car insurance where other people can claim off it. Even if she could prove it I don't see how she could invoke a claim from your house insurance unless your policy details are being clearly displayed in a window...

    But what is minor damage?
The door torn off a 500 quid car could be an 80 euro fix but a scratch to a new car could be multiple thousands.
House insurance generally does cover this damage but not to your own cars as far as I know.

When did it fall off your roof? Last week? Last month?

thanks all for your time and answers, today the neighbor could check the car and there was nothing, she just saw the piece of roof in her property and therefore she assumed her car could have been damaged, at the end it is everything all right, :)

I wouldn't agree. In most basic terms, if I saw a lump of neighbours roof landed beside my car and with the weather and snow covered cars etc, it is possible that you might not spot damage.
In that situation I'd be saying to neighbour that I hoped it had not hit the car. House insurance covers this and always best to have notified of any possible damage early as if left til next time car is being washed or whatever, you will be laughed out the gate.
That said, I'd be checking the car at first opportunity.
In this case, the neighbour came back to confirm that no damage was done so all is well.
If there are lumps of your house flying around the place, you can expect neighbours to a have a short fuse.

It's either so snow covered it couldn't be scratched, or it's not very snow covered & I'd be clearing it to have a look at the car before stressing out a neighbor over the "possibility" of damage. Utter Muppet.
