Social welfare & small inheritance

    Hi,

So next week I’m going to be getting a small inheritance of approx €8,000 and I’m wondering where I stand with social welfare on this.... do I need to notify them? Will it affect my payment?

I’m receiving the Back to work enterprise allowance. Which is basically jobseekers for starting your own small business. But if anyone knows how it affects regular job seekers too could you let me know? My brothers will get the same inheritance amount and they are on jobseekers.

Finding it difficult to find any info on this that doesn’t involve huge sums of money ( eg. 100k)

Any info would be appreciated thank you

That should not have any effect on you,as you are able to have up to 20,000 in savings while getting means tested payments.

You need to notify them that you’ve received it with a copy of the letter from your solicitor stating how much it is, but it won’t affect your payment.
