    Would a lock of hens be better off indoors fed and watered instead of out in the snow.thanks

    Best thing would be let them choose.

    Ours are free to go in and out.
    They came out when I fed them but are mostly inside since.

    If you want to pamper them in this cold weather you could give them some tinned dog/cat food or sardines/tuna in sunflower oil (not the one in brine). I'm sure they would appreciate the extra protein.

    In cold weather conditions chickens can suffer from frost bite on their combs and wattles. In order to help prevent frost bite smear their wattles/combs with vasiline/goose/duck grease daily.
    Also ensure that your poultry's roots/house's haven't been invaded by red mites. They are blood sucking/thirsty feckers that will suck the life outta your healthy hens :mad:.
    You can check for their presence on roosts/inside the coop at night via a flash light. If they are about you will see hundreds even thousands of them.
