Damnit, I knew they were going to move to the V6 for the S6. That rules the new car out for me, so it's either a lightly used S6, or the Cadillac, I think.

(I'm going to be forced into economical cars by the time I die, I'm going to continue buying V8s as long as they're available. I don't think I'll ever sell my V8 S4)

So predictable. Still, Audiphiles like myself will love it. Big A4 or small A8, take your pick. Those rear light clusters look very clumsy and inelegant though, imo.

I actually quite like it....but to be honest it looks like what the current A6 should have looked like. The current model is just so bland and forgettable.

Ultimately though, the press photos like that upon launch will make a car look as good as possible, the proof of the pudding will come in the entry level diesel model with the most basic alloys wheels..

Looks very nice from the front and sides. Not a big fan of the rear and rectangular exhausts. Each to the own tho.

I love the design but it is far from being radical or in any way significantly different from the model it replaces. I'd call it more of a mild facelift than anything else.

There won't be any radical change on successful premium cars like the A6 and 5 Series, i quiet like the look of the new A6. the new 5 series is the same, more of a facelift of the earlier model. A6 seems to be very popular down here in Waterford and i have noticed a lot of them on the road lately compared to the 5series.

You could call it a mild facelift but the reality is, probably every single panel is different - subtly different in some cases maybe, but different all the same! There's only so radical design-wise they can go really with a 3 box saloon. It was always going to look a bit similar to whats gone before... and particularly in Audi's case where they apply the corporate look across the range more than most other marques...

Looks nice. Based on a8 is no bad thing. When the 5 series came out last year it was criticised for being too similar to f10.
But now it rather stands out.
Last big jump in style was e60 in this segment and people went nuts.
In m sport though it became quite a handsome car and still looks very modern because I think it was ahead of its time.

Has there ever been less hype over a new car?

The day before it was launched no-one knew it was coming, the day after nobody cared.

I'd love to have 2 minutes in a dark room with the idiot that signed off on that lower screen for the climate controls.

Well there has been, take BMW - E39 - E60 - f10, they were seriously radical changes.

Merc have moved the E class on from being an old person car 5 years ago to the current one which is gorgeous. Tbh I do like the look of the Audi above, but they really are squeezing the life out of that design

It was well known that that the new A6 was about to be launched, it was no secret

Whatever their last car launched was no secret that's for sure. Browsing the Audi website last year and they had some obnoxious pop up video stream of an unveiling of a new car. Even when you closed it, it popped back up on another page.

I'm happy to watch a live unveiling on YouTube or the new PlayStation get announced at E3 but I'm not interested in an amateur, Snapchat style phone stream in Audi North Dublin or wherever it was.

I'm being facetious, the point is it was barely mentioned. No sense of anticipation from anyone, unlike 5 series and E-class.

The rear and rectangular exhausts are fake exhaust tips.

I like the front end but I wouldn't buy it because I don't like that tacky rear end, I do love the A6's and the interior is fantastic but with that said I think id fancy the new m-sport 5 series now over the new A6...

The E class is dominating at the moment seem to be everywhere the A6 will have its work cut out.

The E Class looks too much like grandads car in my opinion...

    I think it’s a bit of a looker

E Class, A6, 5 Series. My preference order where looks are concerned.

Wouldn't the guilia be a 3 series competitor rather than a 5 series?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Probably. I couldn’t remember.

older style E class much better looking. The arse on the new one is horrible.
Also inside the new one the centre tunnel encroaches too far into the footwell for my liking.

Impressed at the Alfa's appearance in the chart above!

Surprised the S90 sales are so low, I think it's a lovely car with more comfort than the competition

Can't compete with the big 3 I'm more surprised at the Lexus gs.

I think it looks good. I'm not sure what people expect or want to see for the new car.

I think the E-class is dating already, it's multitude of rounded of rounded off surfaces make it look amorphous, and the fact that it looks so similar to the C-class doesn't help. I don't think time will be kind to it.

You're in an Audi thread, saying Mercedes' mid size saloon looks too like their small saloon? The irony!

Oh Audi are arguably the worst offenders, nothing really new there. But we really seem to be at all time low of 'same sausage' different size. I'm longing for a Bangle like designer to emerge and do something a bit different again.

Audi have always sought to have one template for the range you can go back to the 70s and see how each gen (B/C1-4) 80/90, 100/200 are just smaller and bigger of the same theme.

It might be me - but a 'radical redesign' sounded like a sarcasm... ;P

Very surprised by the E class being ahead. Slightly skewed by the Merc & BM being new models which would surely boost sales over the now outdated A6.

I think the Merc is the best looking in its class by a mile, additionally only Merc & Audi/VAG offer PCP plans that won't screw the purchaser at the end of the deal.

Ditto - it's the first non SsangYong looking car they've done in years. I'd have one over the 5 series or A6

Fake exhausts are so so wrong. As for the big square exhausts with a smaller round exhaust inside them... special place in hell for them!
