Delayed grant of probate beyond backlog

How long might it take for probate to be granted after it is lodged and at the top of the backlog?

If it takes several weeks, does that necessarily indicate a problem or is that typical?

Is there any way to find out information as a beneficiary if the executor is not communicative and probate has not been granted yet but is being processed?

You could enquire with the solicitor who lodged the application

If lodged by a personal applicant you could contact that person

The solicitor just said it hasn't been granted yet; no detail. They are pretty incommunicative.

Time delay does not of itself indicate a problem. If there is a problem the Probate Office will communicate that to the executor's solicitor for attention.

A problem for a beneficiary is that there is relatively little probing that you can do around or outside of the executor whilst probate is pending. If you were to contact the executor's solicitor they would likely not deal with you and I would expect likewise if you contacted the Probate Office.

I think that the only thing the Probate Office could tell you is if they have issued a Grant of Probate in respect of the will in question.

That said, you do not have to wait for Godot once the Grant of Probate has issued. If there are delays after that you would be well advised to instruct a solicitor to chase up your interests.

Took me 9 months in Dublin last year. There was a problem reading a number on a form at 6 months. It got redone and sent back. Went to the bottom of the pile again and took another 3 months.
