Leak (?) in geothermal heat pump pipes - how to fix?

We have a geothermal heat pump that is our source of heat in a tiled house (no heat, cold floors!). But the darn thing isn't working. I've had several people out, finally managed to get someone who understands heat pumps and after some time realised that there's no water coming into the pump from the pipes, opened them up and nothing there!

The pump is fed by two boreholes which have been drilled into the rock head below the house. Each borehole is 150 metres deep and both are connected via a closed return pipe loop to the heat pump. They're each accessible by a concrete inspection chamber in the garden.

How on earth does one go about finding the source of the leak, assuming it's a leak; could be a blockage I s'pose. Is that standard plumbing fare or require specialist services?
