Estate/SUV with large boot space

    Hi,

We're looking at trading in our current Audi A3 hatchback for a larger car. Along with our current 50kg bear dog, we have our first child on the way in the summer.

So far herself likes the look of the Santa Fé but with our budget being 15-17k (Plus whatever we'd get for an '08 A3 with 100k miles on the clock), the santa fe's are a bit outside of our budget.

Other options would be a tiguain, but I'm not sure if the boot would be large enough.

I was pushing the idea of an estate, but the better half is not too keen and likes the idea of having the height of an SUV type car.

TL:DR looking for a car with big boot space, 15-17k budget, travel less than 10k miles per year.

    Thanks

Do you need height or length / depth in the boot?

SUV will accommodate taller stuff but an estate will probably take longer stuff if that makes sense. I've an Merc ML and Skoda Superb estate and the Skoda is the larger IMO. Its also easier to handle heavier items in as its lower for loading.

Would you maybe consider a Toyota Prius Estate?

Thanks for the replies thus far, large boot is primarily for the big dog & inevitable buggy and associated baby stuff.

Skoda Octavia estate has massive boot space, biggest in it's class I'd say. You'd pick up a 16/17 model in your budget inc trade in.

We had the previous gen Satna Fe which we liked a lot and was very very reliable but the pricey road tax was a killer. When it came time to change, we balked at the current gen pricing and ended up with a Nuissan X-Trail which we all really like. (2x teenagers).

We have the 7 seat variant and the 2x useless rear seats do take up a good bit of boot space. Look for a 5 seater and it's got more space for dog and kids.

We really like the slightly raised rear seat configuration. It's supposed to help with car sickness and it really does (ferrying our kids football buddies around, one cannot usually go more than 10km without feeling sick but never in the X-Trail.

You'll only find diesels though, which may be an issue with your relatively low mileage. You do need to ensure you have the occasional long-ish run as well to keep the DPF clear.

Just looked on Done Deal, and you will get one of the new Nissan Qashquai for that kind of money from a main dealer & it would be your money well spent.

Boot space in the Qashqai is not large though. Those SUV type crossovers are mainly based on compact sized hatchbacks. They don't offer estate size loading capacity.

    XTrail...

apologies just saw the expected mileage.

perhaps a Toyota C-HR? ample boot space and hybrid.

Boot still too small, only a bit larger than your average hatchback.
