Stat location

I've moved into a new (to me ) house and the heating system is a little antiquated. The gas boiler had just one of those segmented timers. I've installed a switch for a wireless stat and I'm wondering where to put the stat itself.

My last house had TRV's on all the rads and the engineer said to put the stat on the wall in the hall and turn the hall rad up full, then use the TRV's to control the temperature in each room. As I have no TRV's in this house (yet), what is the conventional wisdom in where to put the stat? If it makes any difference, I work from home during the day and the office is across the hall from the living room.

Is your new stat hardwired or just batteries? If its just batteries, I would move it to whatever room I am going to be in. Otherwise, my preference is for the living area. There are are as many who will disagree with me as there are who will agree, so either hall or living room, if hardwired.

It's battery powered. You just gave me an idea. I may look at some kind of magnetic mount so I can bring it into the office during the day and into the living room in the evenings... at least until I get my smart TRV's installed!

Magnet would probably interfere with wireless signal, but you will think of something else.
